And the Judges have spoken: Stephan Martiniere, Todd Lockwood and Lars Grant-West
The first round of the ConceptArt.Org Last 2 Standing: "Beauty and Nightmares" has come to a the finish line. There were some great works created.
Artists collaborated on creating a diptych (two panels), and deeper friendships were made along the way. Skills were shared, unified in collaboration,
and the goal of creating a pair of images that nailed the topic was met.
Then it was for three industry leaders to review it all.
Stephan Martiniere is the art director for id software and has worked on some of the most imaginative films and games in the entertainment business.
Stephan is a visionary world designer, concept artist, and creative leader. http://www.martiniere.com/
Todd Lockwood is of the most recognizable fantasy artists working in the field today. His work has inspired the feel of the world of Dungeons and Dragons
and he is a master imaginative illustrator with oils and digital paint tools. http://www.toddlockwood.com/
Lars Grant-West has spent his career doing something we appreciate very much and that is working with zoos and supporting the animal world with his creative efforts.
He has gone on to be a successful professional fantasy illustrator and respected faculty member of Rhode Island School of Design. http://www.larsgrantwest.com/Home.html
ConceptArt.Org wishes to thank these fine gentlemen for their time reviewing all of the work from the brave and talented souls who entered.
The WINNERS of ROUND ONE are...oh...uhm...well this is interesting.
IT IS A TIE!
First Place: Congratulations to Orlando Sanchez and Brock Cooper
First Place: Congratulations to Caitlin Worth and Alex Johnston
The esteemed judges gathered each of their top five submissions. After their choices were made they assigned a points value to each of those worthy submissions (from 1- to a maximum 5 for first place). When all the dust settled, the total points awarded from the 3 judges, to the top five remaining were as follows:
Orlando Sanchez and Brock Cooper 13
Caitlin Worth and Alex Johnston 13
Jayna Pavlin and Paul Temple 5
Pierluigi Abbondanza and Mathias Kollros 3
Cory Trego Erdner and Jussi Tarvainen 3
The second round is yet to come and the tie must come to an end, and the top two teams will be notified. Until then, we wish to offer sincere congratulations to all who participated, and especially to the top winners. Teamwork is what got you there. Keep up the great work. You inspire us all.
You can find all the creative submissions here http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=221841 and http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...=221841&page=2 There are some beautiful pieces for sure. This was not an easy contest to judge. No doubt about it. Alas...the judges have spoken.

I don't mind losing to THESE entries! Great job everyone.
Did the first entry, with the diagonal divider, meet all the requirements for the contest? I thought there were specific size restrictions and both "halves had to be the same size. Mind you this doesn't better my our chances at winning, we aren't finalists.
~If you can keep your head when all around you have lost theirs, then you probably haven't understood the seriousness of the situation.

Congratulations to the winners, the work looks great!
BTW, I'm sure it was an honest mistake but my work seems to have been confused for the judge's Lars Grant-West. The example of his work on this page is one I created for an H.P Lovecraft challenge. It also made it into the Spectrum annual this year, my first piece accepted after trying for 3 years!
