Syle - Thanks for the feedback man, really appreciate it. I've had a few people mention that to me now. Trying to focus on it. I tried to stay a bit looser in the self portrait yesterday.. Not sure it worked though. I'll keep working on it. Ta

Cheboboh - Yeah, I'm a big fan of line work. Might revisit that at some point. We'll see. Cheers.

So, last couple of days. Here goes.

    Self Portrait.

    More thumbnailing

Looked at some compositions in a bit more depth than normal

    Then did some comps myself

Also, coz I'm back at uni, life drawing's back on. And I'll be doing it twice a week this year.
    So fun

    Session 1

    And today's session

    That's all

    Today's shit.

Quickie self portrait. Ten mins or so.

Bit of Loomis from a while back

    Comps for uni

    Studies for uni

I miss line work. Think you can see I got a bit more confident as I worked on them. Good fun .

And a bit of design for this cctv project

Gonna look at some cyborg mech stuff tomorrow and get back to it.

Keep it up! I especially like your composition thumbnails; they have a lot of good variety and show you're thinking hard about what choices to make!

Justyna - Thanks a lot. Yeah I was enjoying that. Not sure I'm gonna get back to it now though . Think I might just start a new personal piece. Who knows? Maybe I'll revisit it.

Typhonis - Cheers man, means a lot

Amarok - Yeah, I'm kinda new to thumbnailing, never taken it seriously before. They were fun though. In the end we decided not to use any of those. But still, a good excercise

    So, new stuff.

Well, I found time to just sit down and concentrate on a self portrait again for the first time in a while. Pretty fun. Learnt a lot with this one. Say hello to #91:

And just been working on the CCTV project today. So this should be more or less chronological with regard to that.

    All leading up to this

    So yeah, that's the lot

NOTE - PASSED 500 HOURS WITH THIS POST

Been snowed under at uni with the cctv thing. Pitched it today though. Seems like it went pretty well.

Here's the 3D model for the camera I built in Cinema 4D

Nice to get back to 3D.

And here's the implementation. Basically. A campaign where over time the posters change, hopefully making people feel a bit uncomfortable about how many cameras there are in the UK. We just wanted people to start noticing them, as most of the time, they sit unnoticed, on the ceiling.
    So yeah. That.

So, apart from that, I've been kinda busy. So all I've got is life drawing and self portraits (try and ignore the pen one - Oh god brush pens are hard)...

    Ooops :/

Brush pen life drawing was fun though.

And, here's the stuff from this evening. More relaxed. Study, self portrait, and imagination stuff, respectively.

Self Portrait. Colours are all out of whack again. :/. I'm working on it. Gonna do a few more of these, then stop. Should be at 100 by then. Maybe still lives next?

And some faces. These pages are pretty fun

Man asian faces are hard to pull of but you managed it quite well I sadly don't know a lot about mongol culture, so I don't know whether they keep their costumes very plain but I would have really liked to see more patterns worked in to this. Not all over him but just some small designs at for example his stomach, arms, shoulders or boots.

But I know it's not finished yet so maybe there are still stuff to come.
    Really cool studies though.

So, went to the Schoolism Live Workshop in London this weekend. Pretty sweet. So pumped now. Lots of listening, but one of the classes was by Alex Woo - Storyboard artist for pixar. He did a gesture drawing class, so these are all from that class. Basically different ways of drawing a life model, to get some cool gesture into your work

Then when I got home, I made a sheet so I could carry on doing the gesture excercises. Been using posemaniacs for these Makes quite a nice one hour warm up in the morning.

Did some Loomis on the train

    Studied some gold. Dead hard.

    Did some more loomis

And sketched a crazy old lady today.

    That's the lot .

Really good effort, I like how methodically you approach your practice. I wish I had that kind of discipline.

Study from Yesterday. Having issues with contrast in my BW stuff, so trying to figure out the values in a colour photo, myself.

    Sketch from yesterday

    Rough faces for Merlin

Realised I had no idea what I was doing, did a study...

Then this morning, been working through Stan Prokopenko's videos, learning some facial anatomy/planes. If you haven't seen these already, definitely check them out. Really helping me understand stuff a bit more, rather than just bullshitting everything.

    Also, Gestures

    And some more Loomis

    So, recent stuff
    Greyscale Merlin Rough

Thinking about adding a chinese dragon coming out of the sand? I rememeber in Excalibur, Merlin talks about the mist as the 'dragon' a lot. So figured if my Merlin is a chinese priest, travelling with Mongols through the desert, a sandy dragon could be a cool way to push it?

    More gestures

    Loomis

Studies for the Merlin piece. Trying to mix less and be really efficient with the brush strokes. Picking all the colours by eye. Pretty tough, gives a cool look sometimes though

    Sketches

    And some pencil stuff

Oh, and a couple of faces from this morning. Gross

New stuff. Not managed to post recently, but here's what I've been working on.

Following some feedback from others, decided to rework the pose for Merlin. He looked constricted, and really needed to look more dominatiing, so worked on that.

And this is where he's at now, still working on it though

Speedpaint study for the speed paint group on DA

    Life drawing this week

Tried charcoal for the first time :/

    Bit of Loomis

And some more daily pencil work.

    That's all

Keep forgetting to post. AHHHH. So yeah. Here's some new stuff. Oh and HIT 700 HOURS WITH THIS POST (maybe someone will care in the future lol)

    Here goes

Finished Merlin, not really sure where else to go with it tbh, os calling it done,

    Studies from that

Dan's given us a 1 week extension, before the Morgan character, so I'm going to rework Arthur. Was pretty disappointed with how he turned out, and learnt a ton doing Merlin..

    Sketchbook pages

Bargue study spread over 2 days.
Suprisingly fun. If I do another one I think I need to do it slower, more accurately, and for longer. Kinda panicked though.

Study, thought the lighting was pretty sweet here. Trying to think about that more.

    Sketches

Sketches for the CHOW - Gonna start doing these as regularly as I can (Every damn week!) - Hopefully it'll stop me noodling around with stuff quite so much.

    Then just, Loomis

    Gestures

And life drawing (Charcoal's so tough.. if anyone's got any tips, I'd love to hear them!)

    That's the lot
