Thinking of taking a getaway art trip

Well I recently graduated and with absolutely no job offers in my vicinity, and as one who has never traveled, I'm thinking it might be a good idea to go on an art trip. Right now I'm saving up to move out of Iowa to somewhere with an existent art scene, but before that it seems like the time to do some traveling. Visit museums, do a ton of traditional painting, no computers or internet... Just completely focus on art for a couple weeks, something my life is missing right now, focus.

Anyways I'm wondering what you all might suggest for locations to visit? I'm assuming somewhere in Europe, haha, but beyond that I don't really know. Also as I said I've never traveled so I'm not really sure what kind of costs I should expect. At my current job (cleaning windows... living the dream) I make about $500 per week so I'm guessing/hoping it wouldn't take too terribly long to save up for (I have no bills to pay).

Anyways, any tips you might have for this kind of thing would be great, or if you want to share your experiences that's cool too.

In DC a lot of the museums are free so it might be worth a trip expensive to stey here though.

Lots of museums in LA too(probably not as much as NY though), and I'm surprised how much amazing art is here. I found lots of Rembrandt, Sargent and Rubens in Getty's and Norton Simon.

And of course here are lots of game studios and film studios here. Some of them gives studio visits.

I would be up for sketching trips if anyone comes.

If it were me I'd head North and East - I would hit Milwaukee for sure, just to see Calatrava's building. And Chicago, on around the Great Lakes, down through Pennsylvania and into Washicton D.C. Just map out all the great museums, Hudson River Valley, Brandywine, etc. And I'd make sure I had a really good camera.
    What would Caravaggio do?

I totally agree with Randis, Europe has never disappointed. My next Eurotrip will probably be Bruges, then Ibiza.

I would love to make a 2-3 years long world tour some day, visiting all capital cities.
