So, I read this and thought "who is this Laurie Lipton and why would I want an image of her on my body?"

Turns out, Laurie Lipton is actually a tattoo artist. . .

Anyway, was an excuse to Google her.

But, why are skulls and death such a prevalent theme in tattoo art?

And what's the deal with all the Chinese characters? (I've heard that if you're not careful you might end up walking around with a tattoo that says "I is one ugly white chick" in Chinese. . ."

This blog is dedicated to translating Chinese tattoos. Mostly, they're just gibberish -- thanks to a fake "Chinese alphabet" that's circulated around many tattoo parlors.
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).

There's also the other way around, in china and japan there are fake translations of english words - but they can sometimes have a much different meaning then what the buyer thought it had.

I always dreamt of having a tattoo of an asian grandma eating a baby on my privates. Thats like the best tattoo idea ever.

Anyone ever heard remote rumors of a chinese/japanese tattoo (on a non asian person) with a correct meaning?

That's what you'd like to hear, wouldn't you? Maybe your Japanese 'friend' is in on the joke! We Asians love making fun of white peoples behind their back. It's been going on for centuries.

Ah! My friend is half Japanese and half English, his english side would have suppressed his inherant asian urge to ridicule my bad taste in tattoos

Your right! I thought the art was a bit too fine detailed for actual tattoo work.

I guess what the OP is asking is:

Has your tattoo parlor ripped off any of Laurie Lipton's work. . .
