Great batch. Like all of them, but especially that last head. I've been trying to improve my pencils lately and I gotta say that stuff like this just makes me want to try even harder. Inspiring stuff dude, and humbling too.

Man yer pencils are amazing...love your creature designs!
Just tried the Alpha for Sculptris, which is a digital sculpting program. Very cool, and I only had time to play around for an hour and a half, I'm sure there's lots more to it. Here's a little guy that started out as a good old sphere. He's pretty crude at this point, so once I figure out what the heck I'm doing I'll post some progress(hopefully Lots of accidents here' both good and bad, but it's sure quicker than working with clay, although I still like using clay and sculpy.
Anyhoo, hope you dig it. Apologies to any 3D folks out there, I'm sure I'm breaking lots of rules for digital sculpting, I just treated it like real clay for the first go around.
K-bot Thanks for having a look, it wasn't until recently,(a year or so) that I warmed up to tortillons...)
smallergod Wow, thanks so much, that's high praise that I don't really deserve. Looking forward to seeing your work.
p sage Thanks again P Sage...'preciate it!
NickyBeats Thank you my man, hope you dig the sculpts I'm tossing up tonight.
kischi Glad you like 'em, there's plenty more to come. thx again.
GEB Thx GEB
ismo I'm humbled you'd say so, many thanks.
Jephyr X Thx Jephyr, nice to hear from ya again.
conte I didn't do any work for those concepts for B/W 1, but thanks for asking, I'm flattered! I'm supper busy teaching right now...
Crazy. Is there anything with color? I ask because I enjoy pencil drawing and I have difficult times with color sometimes... I see your very strong with your pencils and I would like to know how you approach the coloring subject, be it digital or analog. Thanks.
I'm Dave's Warm Insides
BEHOLD. You're about to witness us...
Fantastic knowledge of form and anatomical design, sort of reminds me of HR Giger. Great, great stuff!
oh man i just started with zbrush and its the same exact interface. lol you got farther than me. very nice!!! any advice for a beginner like me i cant figure it out! what tools did u use
and also did u watch any tutorials before you did that? if so link plz
the sculpture looks AMAAAAAZZZZZZZIIINNNNGGGG for a first timer... except the feathery stuffs thats all pixely distorted... im sure u could fix that though
...holy shit, your work is freakin' awesome. How extensive have you studied anatomy?
Finally an update, work's kept me busy and I've missed posting work but I'm looking forward to getting things up with greater frequency. Here's a few creatures and a critter inspired by a cactus. Not much more to it than that
Thanks for having a look.
Dave'sWarmInsides Thanks so much Dave...there's some colour in earlier pages, I love to paint too but I've been throwing mostly pencils up on this sketchbook, bit of a personal mandate I made for myself to just put pencil to paper, because I just can't get enough of it.
I approach colour in the same way I'd tackle it traditionally, by laying down a ground(likely a neutral value/color) and then building out of that, moving towards lights, and a few intense colours here and there for focal points. So, there's really nothing unique about my approach, but I hope this helps a bit. Cheers!
Jai Kamat Thanks so much Jai, I have to say I've always been awe of the Alien designs!
Sporus Thanks Sporus, I haven't had much time to sculpt lately, hope you're enjoying the software.
CKLamb Thanks so much CK! I guess I've studied quite a bit of anatomy over the years, got a pretty good foundation in it back in art school. Nowadays I handle it pretty liberally, meaning I blow proportion out the window, but that's just a personal choice. Maybe I'll get some figure stuff up that's a little more in keeping with reality! I always keep studying anatomy though, just can't get enough of all the varied articulations in the figure. There's always something new to pick up on.
Fuck yeah! Where you been hiding man?
wow, some amazing pencil works in here. Thanks for posting for us
Here's a little study of some kind of vampire, mostly an excuse to try out a few tweaks to some brushes I've been messing around with. I've done a little digital housecleaning and pitched a lot of brushes, I like to try and get things as close to the way I prefer to paint traditionally, and working traditionally I only ever use a few brushes anyways, filbert, flat and a round for detail.
These studies were mostly a digital airbrush with a hint of texture, and a digital oil with a hint of a soft edge. For crisp edges I just adjust the hardness of the airbrush. On the 3rd study I dropped a Black and White adjustment layer on the image, opened another layer on top and set the layer's blend mode to colour, which allowed me to preserve my values but add a new colour scheme.
I've had a few people ask about posting some digital work, so here it is!
Thanks for taking the time to have a look.
GEB Thanks Man! Not hiding, just busy with work!
Janet Thanks for having a look!
bpic You're very welcome and glad you're enjoying the sketches.
NickyBeats Thx Nicky, I'm switching gears here and posting a little paint for a change.
oooh awesome!! love these man! please excuse me comparing your work to others, but i am seeing some carlos huante and possibly some darren yeow in these! love it!!!
Nice work, man. Very nice control, tightening the focal points on the pencil work especially.
Keep it up!
You just kick so much ass! I love all of it. The creatures are very atmospheric, and there's something special about them.
Man I just love these... Kinda reminds me of Sam Keiths stuff.. Freeg'n excellent
Mainloop- man i must be dyslexic.. cuz i thought you asked how many people are on lsd
#116 and wonderful pieces
SB. p31 updated 25.04.2012.
Well, incredible proportions, concepts, and render skills, you are absolutely pro at this.
Dude, is stunning, perfect, hate you >_<
Some new studies, this thing started off as a Golden Retriever, and then went downhill from there...no pencil for this thing, just wandered around to see what might happen, so this is kinda the three stages. It gradually sprouted some sort of helmet/protective decor, though it's pretty much more form than function. I also wanted to play with a bit of theatric rim light...all Photoshop, and I miss Painter, which is sitting on my old Mac until I get a new version
Thanks for swinging by!
NickyBeats Thx Nicky, no problem, but you're putting me in company I can't hold a candle to!
Roope Maatta Will do, thx for having a look.
Eightball_ I gotta get back to some pencils, now that you mention it. Been dong a lot of digital work, off the cuff and without the safety net of a sketch for a bit. Quite relaxing actually, when I'm not tearing my hair out
The_Flying_Dutchman Thanks Dutchman, appreciate the feedback!
Aaron_ I'm humbled by your comment, thanks so much. Just trying to keep up with all the talent here
rastaray Thank you, and here's more work, with more to come! Some full figures too...
vigostar I love Sam Keith, but I was always a huge fan of Bill Sienkiewicz, who has a lot of Keith's frenetic line quality. As for me, I just draw, and I guess it's inevitable that we'll all look a bit like someone else. I just try to bring thing's to life, be inspired by other's and grab ideas from nature and spin them in the wash through my head.
dan liimatta Thanks Man! and glad to see you back!
vanaga Thanks so much vanaga!
JeanFumero Thanks! and thx for the props for the proportions, which I routinely treat quite liberally!
cgaddict thanks a bunch Addict, means a lot!
SMILEFACE Thanks for the energetic props!
