But I'm digging the pencils the most.

Inspiring sb, man. Your rendering is just killing me. Love the subtlelty of it. Great anatomy and design too. I feel there's just so much to learn from these works. Hope you keep updating.

dan liimatta Thx for the feedback Dan, that was one of those sketches where you look it over the next day and wonder what you were thinking Too much on the strange little neckplate I was experimenting with, I suppose I could just make the head bigger and put it to rest, but that'd be the lazy way out. I appreciate you taking the time to stop by, as always!
SEVANS Thx so much for having a look! I'm trying to keep it pretty pencil friendly but the digital studies will come pouring out soon enough...
DecoyOctopus Boy, thx so much, I'm really honored that you think so highly of the work. I'll swing by your SB soon, and keep up the hard work!
There were many artists that I found and still find tremendously inspiring in the way they view the world and reshape it into their own imagery, so it's pretty neat to be able to share some inspiration the other way.
Jasper_ thx for the support, you're a great talent!
ismo Thanks a lot for stopping by and taking the time to leave a note, drop by anytime, and I'm glad you find the work useful. Take Care!
And now a little sketch I knocked out this week. The scanner blasted it out a little, but I kinda like the effect, after all, it's a sketchbook, and I don't mind a little grit here and there. Some sort of ambiguous figure with a weird cowl, I don't think I'd want to mess with it. I had drawn in some appendages growing out of it's back(spider legs, as they scare the heck outta me), but I wasn't happy so I pulled them out with an eraser, you can kind of see the remnants...I'm not sure if the feet are hooves or not. The rest are doodles around the figure.
Thanks for having a look!
aye - I'm a bit overly verbose ~ as these are sketches (and oh damn mine are so rough and all over the place scale/proportion wise).
& the latest is nice - feels a bit strange as it looks like she is under water hands/feet wise yet hair wise she is standing - but really like the knees, thighs, trunk to head portion ~ and lovely pencil work as always (and grit is included I think ~ and its nice when you don't have to fake it like with digital work).

Thanks for the visit! Your pen and pencil work is simply amazing and that is understatement! As for the paintings I dig the one on the first page. Thanks for sharing the process, I have Painter I will definitely try it out!
ps. Do you have any tips how to scan in pencil work?

and just one more question about how you render... does the tissue wipe/shaing come in at any specific time of the drawing? like at the end or mainly at the beginning... and also are you a heavy user of eraser pens? because when i examine your work i see such precision with the lights i was wondering how you do that? with an eraser pen?
great stuff man great stuff!
NickyBeats As always, thx man, I appreciate it! I think you asked me a few posts ago about painting on a sketch, feel free my pleasure.
dan liimatta Not at all Dan, I love the feedback! And you nailed it, she's floating, I'll give the hair a little less weight. Thanks again.
pixel cheetah Thx for stopping in and also for the feedback. It was a pleasure enjoying your SB, and I'll continue to do so. As for scanning pencils, there's no real trick to it, I've been using the same scanner since 1999! Lately I've been leaving the artwork uncovered a little while scanning, it blows out the contrast a little but I like that for rough work. Stuff for a client approval I'll clean up in Photoshop if it needs it, usually just using Levels to punch up darks or lights. Hope that helps!
Sporus Thanks for the kind words! I left ya a pretty long message in your SB to try and answer your questions.
Been a bit since I posted, so here's some sketches. Couple critters and some faces...
Thanks for having a look.
Whoa... thought I'd commented since July?? Guess not... sorry, man. Great work again. Your pencil renderings have that lovely atmosphere in them.
This one is very good.... liked it a lot... she's coming right out of the screen.
Yes you did! and it WAs very helpful thank you so much sir!
and i love the new 3 theyre really just... idk maybe its just but i feel like when you wipe your ass with toilet paper the resulting image of feces on the white paper would be a work of art i would still adore!
truly inpsiring work
wow.. this sketchbook has blown me away now I look at your skills with a pencil. I'm definitely going to try and emulate some sort of creature in this style at some point!!
No crits from me really, just keep on doing what you're doing and I can't wait to see where this sketchbook is at in a year's time.
love your work mate - the form on all your drawings are great...

Your pencil/pen work are fantastic
It's been way too long since an update, I've been pretty busy at work so now I've managed a little window to get some things up. There's a mix of little creatures, big creatures, some really loose studies, and even one of my all time favorite designs, a little spin on a Predator, why not.
Thanks again for dropping by, it's always a thrill enjoying all of your work out there, so I hope you get a kick out of some of these new little guys.
I'll visit SB's soon...
p sage Thx as always! I appreciate you dropping by.
Sporus Ummm...thx! Glad the tips helped
n1frit Thx, it's fun playing with a little distorted anatomy, maybe I'll reign it in one of the days and do something a little more realistic.
Lord Dubu Thanks Dubu, loved your work too. I was into Giger in my early years, not as much anymore, though the appreciation never really wanes. I'm really kinda of a fan of all types of art and approaches to image making. As for the creatures and sci-fi, that's a lot of Saturday after noon creature features as a kid. Thanks again for having a look!
NickyBeats Always great to have you drop by, and it was a real treat to see where you took that sketch. Keep it up man!
ChicoBlue Thx for the kind words, it's very much appreciated and I'm humbled you find it inspiring.
Vritra Thank you so much, I'll try and get more work up at a greater frequency!
brentos8 Thanks for dropping by...and yes, I'm obsessed with form! Can't get enough of exploring it in all kinds of little critters.
ThomasM Thanks so much Thomas, it's great to be inspired by all the work out here, and I'm happy these little guys I toss up here make you want to draw too, it's a true compliment and thanks again.
strybjorn Thanks so much...yes, I do paint, but haven't done any of these little guys as of yet. They're coming though! Just been in a drawing phase with the pencil for the last while....drop by again.
Magic Man Always a pleasure and an honour when you drop in, thanks so much. My months from fall to spring are spent teaching in a design program here in Canada, so that keeps me super busy...but I love it! I get as much of a thrill out of teaching art as I do creating it myself, so it's the best of both worlds.
kirill Thanks for the kind words! I'll swing by your book soon.
ErikR Thx Erik, love your painting in your thread, great work.
I really enjoyed the juxtaposition of rendering lines vs. smudging in your pencils, keep it up!
This sketchbook is awesome and supercool and made my life better than it was. Thank yu for sharing this incredible art!
