Thread: Chips Sketchbook
June 23rd, 2011 #1
Hey guys, finally after a long while of putting this off, I've gathered the balls to actually go ahead and display my studies and scribbles.
I've recently just left school in order to teach myself full time, so I'm hoping this sketchbook will be that little extra encouragement to struggle through the harder times.
me and my good friend Kamikazuh have set up a study schedule and will be updating our sketchbooks accordingly.
You can check out his sketchbook here: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=190081

The bird man character's detailing is absolutely incredible. The woman's face is nicely detailed ... however, the rest needs some work.

Diggin' your sketchbook so far. I really like the warm colors in the shadows on your first portrait. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks for the advice man, it's already helped me out in seeing grays that I hadn't noticed before.
This latest batch is looking good man. Definitely like to see the anatomy and environment studies! On the helm designs, I think the finals could use some more hard edges in there to contrast all the soft rendering and really make 'em pop. Other than that, lookin' sweet!

It's been a little break for me, but worry not, I've still been killer busy!
EDIT: Oh! I also have twitter now! Come add me all you art peoples! http://twitter.com/#!/Shh_Chips
You're right about the hard edges, it's actually one of my biggest lessons over the last months. Edges and Silhouettes!

I'm glad that's coming across, emotion is something I really strive for in my work. Upon posting these, concern over their effect was evident.
Right! I've been hella busy with all kinds of studies and such, but I'll only post a few here today, as I have work in 30 minutes. Bah.
The latter image is a gift for a good friend. I believe he thinks an awful lot about philosophy and the meaning of life, to the point where it consumes him. So, here is him, fighting god himself in an epic battle of liberation.
Happy Birthday Matt.

nice updates man! love how your rendering is coming along, your definately putting the effort into these, but be careful of how you initially set up your placement of features on your characters, especially the faces, some of their features like eyes dont really line up and tend to follow different curves around the face. but keep it up man, love those details!
