    Ian's Sketchbook - update!!

Hello everyone! I have been a long time lurker very infrequent poster. Just rejoined as I couldn't remember my old password and the reassign didn't seem to work. . .

I'll be starting a teaching position soon in Digital Art and Design and wanted to get into the habit of posting stuff for comment/critique.

Looking forward to becoming a contributing member of this community.

Some old stuff and some new stuff. First stuff is oldest but none older than a year or so.

    Thanks!

    I absolutely love your linework!
Amazing value and colour control too, top stuff!
Would be great to see some more figurative studies though.
    Keep it up!

Jephyr X: Thanks man! Appreciate it!
mass87: Thanks a lot! Sorry to disappoint, Sheen is probably as far as he'll go. Just wanted to see if I could get a good push and likeness quickly - spent about a half hour on that. He's had enough attention anyway, don't you think?

Here's one I've been working on here and there, started as pencil drawing and I'm rendering in photoshop as I have time (i.e. very slowly). I want to take him to a photographic level. . .

lunch break doodle. . . I based the values on this Sargent portrait but I shifted the hue a bit.

I may finish this one up.

Thanks for looking! Please comment or critique!

    some more sketch pages. ..

an abandoned overly generic Thudarr the Barbarian redesign, some figure sketches, a head that I based the last sketch paint portrait on (I need to get back on that), and the dragon sketch that I am basing that dragon sculpt on - not at all in that order.

    Thanks for having a look!

been a while but I'm finishing up with my job before getting ready to become a full time teacher. I'm hoping to have more time for new stuff in the coming weeks.

first is a figure study that I'm working on as part of a demo that I may do in my classes.

The second is an old caricature that I found and thought I'd throw on here.

    Thanks ya'll!

EDIT: Does anyone have a good way to change the image that displays in the thumbnail without removing all 50 of my images in the first post?

    Thanks a lot guys.
P_sage: glad you guessed it! mission accomplished.
Moondoodles: thanks for dropping by man, loved your stuff. I'll see about getting the color better, its a constant struggle.

WIP inspired by lots of Swamp People reruns. I love that show. Every personality on there would make a great game character. ..

Cool stuff Love the caricatures. They're very full of character. And I've always admired people who are able to not only capture a likeness, but distort it to their whims and still keep the person recognizable! Well done!
The gator guy from the last post is also pretty cool.
Good luck now! And keep having fun!

When in doubt, run and shout.
