Foundations as in the basics. Proportion, anatomy and all that. This guy wrote a pretty decent guide on how to sight and measure objects with a pencil. Check it out and definitely use it! http://www.drawinghowtodraw.com/step...-thumb-method/

Haha I think you're somewhat ahead of me but i'll take the compliment!
Yeah the work is going in but I just wish I had more time for my art, having 3 college subjects none of which are art related stops me pumping out as much as i'd like to. Hopefully Games design at Uni next year will be better!

EDIT: Didn't realise you were a girl my bad!

P.s guys, anyone fancy confirming this style looks better?

Pretty ecstatic to finally get this up to be honest guys, it's as close to being finished as it's going to be at least for now. Spent a good few hours on it tonight. Next thing I do with it will be a few design alterations beside it, I'm thinking a hood and cloak with alternate weapons for the next one

    hope you like

few crappy things from my notepad will go up later if I'm that bored

I can certainly see a huge improvement from your first post in these last couple of updates. However, I think you should concentrate your studies on form, proportion, and anatomy/construction before jumping into general painting. Worry more about the lines and less about how to shade in between them.

    Keep up the good work!

Come on guys all i've done the past 2 days is pump out studies! I know i'm not great and there's not much to comment on but even a simple reply is motivating!

Anyway here's a rough WIP I started earlier, no ref purely imagination.

The thing on his head is a mohawk, I'm gonna look up how a mohawk looks from the front later...

Also I can't help but feel like the skin looks transparent (im used to working greyscale) any tips?

Great progress can be seen here, keep it up!
It's good that you see your own mistakes, it really makes you learn faster.

    Hey man!

You remind me of myself, and probably several others, starting out and not being quite sure where to begin. But you're on the right track!

if you havent checked these out, then do; http://www.conceptart.org/forums/showthread.php?t=81332
    http://www.ctrlpaint.com/

Like Blunderguffer said, having something to follow helps!

I had a longer "speech" in my head, but I forgot it ><
looking forward to seeing more of your work man!

btw, skin IS transparent. But you should figure out values and linework before color.

as to lifedrawing courses, if you cant find one, just either make one or use the next best thing; ze internet! using photos is better than nothing

    Keep going man!

I'm back for a while! First of all thought I better apologise for coming and going so much. Things get in the way a lot but ill always come back to art sooner or later

Also i'm 18 now, anyone know how to change my thread title?

2 i've done from ref in the past 3 days just from pictures on google

The tiger isn't done, need to darken up the black patches and add whiskers but I thought i'd put it up to see if anyone can help me add whiskers in a way that they'll stand out from the fur, might even just resort to finding a white pencil...

Aaand secondly I feel like there's no depth to the tiger face, tips for that too?

    Another little update

The last one was originally Matt Damon but it got less and less like him, headshape is the main thing i failed with. However didn't spend long on it so no problem

thanks for the comment in my sb!

I would recommend getting a variety of pencils to achieve more contrast in your work.
Even B to 4B is a nice range.

Also, at the moment, I would recommend drawing mostly from life and checking out some anatomy books such as Bridgman. I know the desire to start making your imagination come to life is very tempting, but honestly you need to get more fundamentals down.

Anyways, already some good improvement, just keep working!
