DAE feel insecure about non-academic education?

I just wanted to see if anyone else out there feel less of an artist because of lack of atelier training or bargue drawing practice?

No I feel I am better for it since I am actiually a practicing professional artist. paint from life you don't need atelier training. If you want to be a portrait artist it can help you but even then I would limit atelier training to no more than two or three years

Are you kidding? Sometimes I don't even feel like a man, man! Sometimes I just sit in my studio, put on some really heavy blues and pine for the fjords.

What was the question again? Oh yeah, no. Are there some people I'd like to study with? Sure. But I always wanted to date Barbara Feldon too. Neither one probably happening.

Barbara Feldon? No way; might of well said Don Adams. Diana Rigg or Dawn Wells were the hot TV babes in the sixties.

No... mostly I feel like less of an artist because I'm a lazy butt. Although some days it would be really nice to have someone standing at your shoulder saying "NO YOU FOOL, DON'T PUT THAT PINK BIT THERE!"

i think training is validating. but i guess the type depends on your individual goals.

being a commercial artist i would personally see a great futility in going the atelier route since it isnt designed for commercial application.

however there are great skills you can learn through it.

ide feel more at loss if i didnt have an apprentice situation at some point that if i were not formally educated.

I think you will find that a lot of concept artists are to worried about getting to the end goal that we dont realise the old masters of illustration understood and practiced these classical methods....

maybe we dont need them because of the digital revolution... but half of us (including myself) couldnt do a solid oil painting if our lives depended on it... however we loose nothing since it may never be required of us.

Nope. I think it may have been fun to go through that sort of traditional training but I don't feel like less than an artist...well...not because of my lack of atelier training anyway.

Noo I don't think so. I personally feel like an artist not exactly because I have or have not trained or studied in such a way as in a studio. I guess it has more to do with how you think about what you do/draw/paint, like trying to get the feeling of it, ateliers and schools just teach technical stuff, in the end experience is what matter At least for me XD
