Announcing the release of PD Howler 1.0
The next generation of Project Dogwaffle digital painting and animation
San Diego, CA - May 29, 2011
Dan Ritchie, creator of Project Dogwaffle and Philip Staiger of TheBest3D.com have announced that the next generation of Project Dogwaffle named PD Howler is now available. PD Howler is a fast digital painting and animation program made by an artist for professionals alike. It is loaded with numerous features used in VFX and film industry for post work, matte painting and traditional animation.
"We run great on Windows 7 now”, said Ritchie, “and we've paid special attention to re-designing and optimizing our low level libraries, expanding our multi-threading support and making use of new techniques and technologies. The overall result is just stunning."
What's New in PD Howler?
The need for speed: we're kind of obsessive about that stuff...
In this version of Project Dogwaffle, there are a number of improvements including changes that radically improve memory throughput in a number of cases. Floating point operations now use SSE2 registers. Add to that optimizations for better cache usage whenever possible, plus some new algorithms for a number of functions, and the results are filters that are often fast enough to operate in real-time, not just over a small preview version of your image, but on the whole image.
Here are a few key elements that have been added or improved:
GUI Improvements: more modern visually compatible with Windows 7
Lighting Tool: images are interpreted as elevation maps and come to life in 3D
Improved Bristle Brushes
New Symmetry, Mirror and & Kaleidoscope modes
Improved Stroke Player (re-use your saved brush strokes)
New Layer Modes
Loading video and Spritesheets directly to animated brushes
Convert all frames from the undo buffer to an animation
New media player and updated sound recorder
For developers, API changes with additions for 3D
Color gradients: improved sweep editor
Real-time blur tools
