    Too wide of a monitor

So I have dual monitors set up for my computer and one is a widescreen (1280x768) and the other is an average screen (1280x960). My problem is that when I paint stuff on the wide screen it comes up narrower then it was when I painted it. and when I tried switching the screens then I realized the references I have on my wide screen would appear more stretched out then they actually are.

So I need to know, is there a way I could set the dimmensions on my wide screen so it doesn't stretch the image?
