After what seems like a long break away from the computer, I've done some more work on this. Still not totally happy with the fish. There will be more of them, but until I can render them better I wont be adding them in.

Any comments appreciated! Otherwise, I'll keep on at it

This painting has been on hold for some time now. My main issue is incorporating the fish so that
    a) people know they are fish and
    b) you can see they are in the air; not underwater.

What do you think about this idea: The fish swimming up from the extreme foreground, around the people and then on upwards to meet the birds.

    Chris,

How come you are just The Man? (That was a rhetorical question.) You go through the work process perfectly, with thumbnails, reference, the whole works; you take all the critiques you get and really carry them through; and you plug away at each piece until it is the best you can do (which is getting better and better pretty fast). You're totally showing me up. Good job. You make me wonder what the heck I'm doing with my life and all my copious free time. It's pretty inspiring, so Thanks!

Sorry I don't have any crits for you. Just keep at it, you know what you're doing.

Give the fish wings like they did the keys in Harry Potter The Philosophers Stone .

    Edit to add :

you can just exaggerate the pelvic fins to make them look like wings. Googling flying fish should be of assistance

Mr. Corlan: Heh I certainly don't show you up. I've been taking a look through your sketchbook and it is pretty awesome. This site is such a wonderful resource with so much experience to draw from that it is a shame to waste it

Charlie D: More wing-like fins is probably a good idea. I'll be back onto designing the fish again just as soon as I have a composition I'm happy with. I think I should have done this sooner, but you live and learn

I personally find the fish a little too colorfull as it plays tricks with the kind of mood I am supposed to experience. I find them cute and joyfull, but as I look up everything becomes dark and mysterious.

I also find that the birds start kind of abruptly and replace the fish all of a sudden. That is fine by all means, but I would throw in some birds closer to us to smooth the transition between the fish and the birds.

The perspective works great by the way, very nice! I just wish the human characters had more perspective (mainly the guy on the right, I am not feeling his perspective at all, looks like a normal side view).
