@Adevila - Yeah, I might change his head completely. I think part of the problem is that I took the top part of his head off. The hair looked bad, but now it's messing with the proportions.

@Caspia - You're not wrong, but I like the action pose and emotion. I guess I'll see when I add the shiny effects in. Maybe if I turn his head more towards the sword it will make it seem less like he's attacking with his magic hand.

Thanks for the suggestions people. Some really great work going on here as always.

Here's an update. I'll start with the detailing tomorrow. This Chow is my favourite so far but will really need to step up a gear since everyone elses are looking awesome.

Do me a favour guys, make sure you post on the finals (please). I hate seeing great wips and then not at the poll.

    shading shading shading

    Hei ohhh

Wanted to update, some small changes. Hoping I can make final
My shading always takes forever, I would love to turn my lines off, (training wheels) but without lines it looks like a blobby mess. Maybe I need to try some different brushes.

gotta give a shout out too Paolo, Rachel, and Joey. Your pieces look RAD! And I cant wait to see your finals.

Instead of doing some freelance jobs i couldn't resist not doing this theme. Still not sure where i am going with it, but i like emotion/color/composition.

Now things are really hotting up!

    Jugival: Really classic composition

MatejaPetkovic: I just know this is gunna be awesome

    k_z: Love the pose

failstar: Looking great already can't wait to see it progress

Obacmar: Manga mech angel. Love the concept!

Paolo13: Brilliant take on the idea

RXMT: The right wing doesn't look right. I've done a quick sloppy paintover of one way you might do it. It's not perfect and I hope you don't mind

Rachel Pierce: Wow! That's looking great!

Fallenangel: Looking good, though I prefered your initial composition

Dayle: You might want to check that left leg, it's not sitting right. Maybe if you bend the knee.

joey pistone: Love the design and pose

jefflarose: Vibrant! But you really must get some reference together it will help your proportions so much also the way light plays on surfaces. Reference is not cheating!

First chow, going for an alternative approach
Not sure whether to put in a background or add someone for the angel mouse to be protected, so any suggestions would be helpful : )

strangedawn: I love the face! I think you could slim her at the waste, make the thigh of her right leg a little longer and have the lower left leg a little further down and further left. Also I reckon if the wings were fully outstretched it would form a nice V shape to draw the eye into the middle

I think I'll try a variant on the 'pen is mightier than the sword' for my archangel, because there's a lot of awesome blades in these WPIs.

Behold the messiest block in ever! (bad practice i know just trying to find the right colors/tone right now. will make a solid block in when I get home tonight)
I'll post some crits/comments later. Only have a little bit of time right now. D: (and the word bubble is just a joke ;p)

Rachel Pierce Yaaaay! I want a cookie :B So many wings, it's going to fantastic when it's finished.

hala The block in may be messy but the arrangement of his wings is really nice.

Pixeltuner I love the fuss and wire around her hair, although she looks a little off balance, leaning back a bit too far perhaps?

Diantoga From the cropping you've done it would make sense for him to be protecting someone behind him, or...perhaps he doesn't notice another snake behind him! Oh no!

MatejaPetkovic It's very sombre and surreal with the funny block things the angel is sitting on, is the whole thing going to be crumbling away beneath it like the wings?

    Progress

Never again opencanvas. Never again. I hate your multiply layers. Hates you. It does weird stuff!

Okay, dealing with student loans took some time, but I'm back with another WIP. I see I'm a bit behind with my archangel. Well at least it has wings now. Now I'll try to get textures and colours on.

Sarmati Woooo, your composition packs a punch! Watch the front leg, though, it seems to be a bit stiff. Its positioning throws the pose a bit off balance. I love the way you've worked in the wings, though, their scale and mild perspective distortion really brings the viewer into the image.

strangedawn I absolutely love the minor elements you've included - all of the decorative curves really seem reminiscent of the masters' depictions of archangels.

Should NOT have bought The Witcher 2...

almost final. need to add in some details, going to leave the guy as basic as i can so as not to draw attention from her.

Still not happy with the wings, its going to need to be something i work on, just cant get the shape of brush strokes right.
