Here's where I'm at after a few nights work.

Some epic archangels happening in here, Mr. Gadbury and GEB's are looking awesome.

DPFX Thanks for the encouragement! Yours is looking good!

Geb Thanks for the explaination yesterday, really helpful. I started small with greyscale and it feels better, nice one.

Junpei Thanks for asking the question cos the answer was, I don't know (well didn't) now I've tweaked the composition and am much happier with it.

I fear my technical abilities will let me down but the image in my head is great! Plenty of time to nail it still (nervous laughter...)

Good work everybody, the work here rocks!

I found a dynamic post to make him more interesting. The outfit is going to be all straps inspired by a straitjacket, since he's also the patron of mental illness. I think I'll have a few laser beams coming out of a few of the eyes, and make that the weapon (unless the staff is enough.) The satchel is full of medicines.

Oooo, my first CA contest ^___^

i want the face to look womanly but with some elegant, kind of strong features.
Also, ignore the hair I have scribbled on there. Its pretty awful, lol.

I was told by my roomie that the neck is a bit long, but I did that because she's straining in pain and looking up. Does it work being a little elongated or should I shorten it a bit?

I'm thinking of going for an art noveau/stained glass window kind of look.

I used a reference photo for the pose and I feel I got the anatomy pretty well for it being my first draft. I didn't add much detail to the arms quite yet because I'm thinking of bringing her right torso in a little bit so i can make the arm very slightly thicker while keeping that space between them.

Update with perspective fixed leg. I think it looks better. Need to add the leg armor, fix the sword arm, and figure out how to do the hair, amongst other things.

Heres an update. Its feeling pretty boring. Not really sure where to take this.

dayle- watch those values- It seems like you have a lot of pure white and pure black. I would try to make use of some grey values between to show more form.

dcrittelli- That dudes eyes seem a little high on his head. If his head is angled upward like that we would see more of his neck.

Junpei- I love the painterly quality to your sketches. Seems quite traditional.

Quinn- Super cool man. I like how the head is surround by white it really leads my eye to the head.

Adevila Thanks. I'm going to redo the ground completely and try and fix the other bits, it didn't look that dark on ps!?! Now sat at work frustrated cos I have to wait 6 hours before I can draw again. Boring. Nice reflection on the sword by the way.

    Le feedback.

Junpei. That made me smile. Still, I think the fluffy texture you have with the brushstrokes really lends itself well to wings and feathers.

Balabanov. That's a really interesting concept, although his head looks rather plain in comparison to the rest of his design. Which is more ornate.

jefflarose. I like the idea of the angel just popping out of the red cloth, bit like a genie in a bottle but and angel in a cloak...or something.

Obacmar. Yessss mecha angel! I can totally see steam jets coming out of those wings.

kurios. I see your idea more clearly now and all the eyes give it a really intimidating edge. Which I guess angels are supposed to have. Cower in fear mortal! etc.

Dcritelli. Like the medevil armour although I'm not sure whether he's going to heal someone or smite them at the moment.

Adevila. Fantastic armour rendering. So shiney. I'm not getting a sense of the figure beneath the clothing though, that might be because it's so bulky...

Sir Patroclo. Such a cute idea. That wee devil got his head kicked in and he looks so wasted now, hehehe.

Le update. Bloody open canvas 1.1 I've found doesn't let me merge layers how I would like. Guuuh. Frustration.

Well, I guess I need to draw some injured person or warrior lying down in front of her.

Hi there, I've made a sketch of my idea, it's a pretty boring/cliche archangel, but anyway I'm participating to in order to improve my skills and creativity :-p.

Any comments and critics would be appreciated! :-)

    Thanks!

Something I threw together in fifteen minutes or so...don't know if I'm going to pursue it, but it's fun to draw winged people!

    EDIT: Now with updated version...

I need to get used to posting my WIPs and waiting for critique before continuing... ): I got kind of carried away and took it to final. Horrible thing happened though! Just as I finished it up and downsized the image (to about 20%), some things happened and I accidentally saved the file. I still have all the layers in tact, but unfortunately my PSD is now a fifth of the original size. SHAAAAME.

    soo many awesome angels

started colouring, think i'm going to stick with the fire&ice colour theme

@haha: thx your right, I'm gonna leave the bed out completly

@Adevila: I noticed the book hes holding as shield, thats pretty unique, how about keeping books in mind as a motiv to spice things up? (dunno if you can say it like thatXD), like your metal btw

@Deadlyhazard: The flow of those wings is great

Had a 3 year hiatus from here, I think last CHOW I had a go at was John Carter of Mars but a friend has convinced me to come back and help me get over this artist block I'm having.

I promised I'd try these again, so here I go. I started with some thumbnails and ended up with the one in the lower right corner. Then I started adding details. I'm gonna go ahead and clean up these lines.

vatteh The pose you've chosen has the potential for a lot of energy and motion, but I think a few things are holding it back. For example, the bulk of the energy is being directed to the top right, but your angel's feet are perpendicular to it. You should probably extend the feet out parallel to the rest of the body. Same thing with the sword - if it were surging out in the same direction, we'd get a greater impression of the force driving right through the character's figure.

Adevila I love the shape of your wings - they're always something that have tormented me, so to see them extending out from your character so flawlessly is quite inspiring. Something about the proportions of the armour against the body seems off to me, though. I think the armour seems a bit too bulky (in the wrong way) and results in the sense that it doesn't fit properly. It makes the angel itself look meek. The crossbar of the sword also contributes to this.

Quinn Simoes Aaaagh so good D:
