This is the only article I found but I'm not even sure if it's true.

Frank Franzetta... Satoshi Kon... Jeffrey Jones... We are losing too many giants and there are too many destructive people living today. It kills me. I was just wishing someone happy birthday and just minutes after I heard about this.

Wow. Just bought a book of Jones' work a few months ago.
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).

The way someone was talking about them in a thread I read a while ago made me think they were already dead...

Apparently, the news came via Twitter, so there's less than 140 characters worth of information about it.

    Rest in Peace

Her style was original, it was completely distinguishable from other fantasy artists. Yeah Jones was one of my faves.

    Nuts.. I love his work.

note: Why is everyone refering to jeffery as "she/her"?

Because that's how she preferred to be referred to in the last years of her life.

Muddy Colors has a great explanation about Jones' preference for pronoun as does illustrationart.blogspot.com. Don't feel bad for saying he or she. Anyway the work is undeniably unforgettable.

This is extremely sad news. Jeffery was roughly my age, and grew up in the same world of clashing design concepts and figurative art where anything goes as I did. She was one of my early inspirations, but unlike most people, I was inspired by her line work rather than the painterly pieces. She actually may have been one of the greatest illustrative designers of the 20th century.

    RIP

She did indeed, I was out of the loop on that one.

Her paintings (to me) never really hinted at her sketch style. Both of which are equally amazing.
    Sorely missed already.
