Update! I was bored on Friday so I started a painting from a reference. Here is what I got so far:

Initial pencil sketch. Too rushed, full of mistakes...

    Attachment 1257009

Oh well, let's fix it up a bit on gimp and start placing colors:

    Attachment 1257011

Current version is below, a few hours later (probably 10 hours total):

    Attachment 1243935

    My comments:
I struggled quite a lot with the face at that particular angle, I redrew it once before coloring. Then when doing the colors, the face kept bugging me, I eventually gave up and overlaid (no, I didn't trace, just compared then fixed stuff after the fact) the reference to figure out my mistakes. What really messed me up was the alignment of the chin with the eyes, I shouldn't draw the jaw/chin first, that's usually not the best idea.

Update on copyrights: I can post my art (thankfully) but not the reference picture.

Update: I wont be in town for 2 weeks so I wont be posting life drawings but I'll try to keep this up to date anyway. Otherwise, I'll try to post life drawings weekly. This week's drawings (paper meant to be white... I should take better pictures):

    90 second poses:
    Attachment 1241484

    Still 90 seconds.
    Attachment 1241485

    20-30 (I forgot) minutes
    Attachment 1241486

    20-30 minutes
    Attachment 1241487

    30 minutes:
    Attachment 1241488

The last one was a disaster, I restarted it 10 times, couldn't go very far.

More older life drawings, I wanted to keep a digital record of them somewhere. Those are typically longer poses (a couple of hours) besides the portraits which are more like 10-20 minutes. I feel a bit rusty when I look at some of those. I should get to it again. One can probably guess which is older and which is newer:
    Attachment 1241793

1 - I think the chin/cheek line is too far on the right.

    Attachment 1241794

2 - Neck too long, I made that drawing 2 years ago or so and I just noticed it today. Her right arm (on the left) looks too small overall.

    Attachment 1241795

3 - The legs/feet kinda suck, I should study those more.

    Attachment 1241796

4 - forehead make the head look a bit distorded. feets and hands are not finished. The shading/anatomy of the upper body is soso.

    Attachment 1241797

5 - Her arms look a bit broken, the legs could have been better too.

    Attachment 1241798

6 - The face doesnt feel right, doesnt look like the model. I think there are other issues, the area around her right knee dosn't feel right either.

    Attachment 1241800

7 - Too much hair, I think it was done to compensate for other issues with the face. The feet are broken.

    Attachment 1241801

8 - A few issues with the neck. The arm looks flat and structureless. Her legs are soso to bad.

    Attachment 1241802

9 - I cant tell much as I like this drawing, I guess her hands/feet could have been better. I am not too sure about the proportions but I know the model was very short though.

    Attachment 1241803

10 - No comments, looks good for the time I spent on it

    Attachment 1241804

11 - Shows my weaknesses again (feet/knee etc). Looks good overall given the difficulty of the pose.

    Attachment 1241805

12 - Head looks a bit distorded. Knees seem pretty thin.

    Attachment 1241806

13 - Right arm and head have issues. That pose was hard because a lot of the body was hidden.

    Attachment 1241807

14 - Head too big, neck too long. I was experimenting with colors.

    Attachment 1241808

15 - NECK! Her foot is broken.

    Attachment 1241809

16 - Head feels distorded even though his head was looking like this in reality .

Edit: Looking at those drawings again, I am noticing quite a few obvious mistakes, I listed them under each drawing and I'll assign a number to each. People are welcomed to add more comments, please be tough on me, I like it.

I updated one of my posts, I removed some pics because I got worried about copyrights. I put back the final version of the painting concerned but unfortunately, I cannot show the reference.

I am starting assignment 1 of the study group: http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=209890

I pick that reference as I like dragons and I think it will challenging enough for me to do:
    Attachment 1257812

I am starting with 3 layers, not sure it s a good choice:

    Attachment 1257814

I refining the volumes a bit, I am trying to use the negative space as much as I can, I feel a bit squished horizontally for some reason:

Update: Some life drawings from last week and this week. Somehow, I feel that 2 weeks break didnt do any good to me . Comments are under the attachments.

    Attachment 1261725

    1- Meh...

    Attachment 1261726

    2- More Meh...

    Attachment 1261727

    3- A little better.

    Attachment 1261728

4- Odd looking position, I blame the legs/feet. If somebody has specific comments, I'd be glad to hear them.

    Attachment 1261729

5- I am fairly happy about that one.

    Attachment 1261731

6- Focused on the face mostly, then I rushed the body (hence why the head look small compared to the rest of the body)

    Update on my first assignement:

2 More steps where I try to redefine the dragon a bit, there is some distortion that I am gonna try to fix later:

    Attachment 1262929

    Attachment 1262930

From now on, I am gonna work longer between updates to not post too many steps.

Nice work! I look forward to seeing how that dragon piece turns out. It's looking pretty good already.

    Update:

As suggested, I worked a bit more on the background, that made me notice more problems with negative space. Somehow, I am struggling to fit in all the features under the dragon. I was painting everything at once so it looks a bit chaotic now.

Update on the reference study. I just spent a couple of hours on it, I must say I am getting overwhelmed by the amount of details I have to fit in there. I think it s getting very important for me to get the main volumes right asap or it will much harder to fix it later on. Any suggestions are welcome at this point for me to make the best use of my time on that study.
