Oh, good. Then I'm going in the right direction.

See, I kinda think that one of the reasons he never got caught was because he didn't LOOK like a vicious murderer. He probably didn't wander the streets wielding a knife dripping in blood with a sadistic leer on his villainously mustachioed face. To paraphrase Wednesday Addams: he's a serial killer. He looks just like everyone else. Or all those people they interview after they catch a serial killer: He seemed like such a nice man.

Personally, I find the idea that Jack the Ripper was hiding behind the facade of a decent person far creepier than if he was wearing an outfit that screams "I just slaughtered three prostitutes!" ... but that's me. We're all entitled to our own interpretations, right? Since I hate painting gore and guts, this was the way I chose to go.

So, for me the challenge will be creating a character who is outwardly normal, but with hints of his true personality lurking in the details. As I add those in, maybe he'll feel more like Jack the Ripper to you. Maybe he won't. But then, maybe that's what I'm going for.

Obacmar - nice concept but your perspective is way off. The horizon looks to be about where Jack's nipples are, which means that any other figures in the image on the same ground plane should also cross the horizon at the nipples. Hope that helps
Also, those buildings are beautifully drawn! lovely stuff

Well I haven't made a post here in a long while but figured I couldn't pass up some good ol' Jack the Ripper. Just some quick sketching, trying to get a feel for the time. Some absolutely "Killer" entries so far, everyone!

thats totally true and as you can see i had the same approach i like it also a little more understated.. but you could maybe point out that he is following a lady or sth i mean create the connection.. otherwise it really could be anybody..

my Sketchbook plz help me become a better artist !

    Bad Perspective

    Hey
Thx Danlambert, I didn't even realize how far I was off. I guess the buildings were dictating the perspective in the BG. I was confused with my mistake so I used 3dmax to take a see how far I was off. WAY off! hehe. Now I gotta juggle some buildings around. Gotta work double time to make it to the finish.

    cya soon

The colors are a bit more saturated then what I'm thinking, but I'll fix that with the final colors

Paolo13: That's looking awesome now. That's proper concepting right there!

Hellfire: Fantastic mood I can't wait to see it completed

dchung: He looks creepy as! A bit like a reverend, which isn't a bad idea! If he was in a position of trust like that it would be easy for him to lure a girl to her death

danlambert: Again nice mood. I think you could up the contrast for drama. And be careful he doesn't end up looking like a crazy magician

First time posting - so very-very nervous.

    WIP, sketches.

I'm playing with proportions - but I might fix them yet. I think he'd look like a tall-thin-wiry gentleman.

Someone saw me sketching this and asked if it was Pierre Trudeau. I'm not sure how they arrived at the presupposition but its kinda funny if you're Canadian.

Not sure I will get this done, I just started it last night. Taking a slightly different direction, its more the monster within idea.

Lots of cool Jacks in this thread!

    Cheers!

Sad because Jeffrey Catherine Jones passed away. And if I understand correctly, Jones preferred to be thought of as a "she," I think.

My gallery: http://www.shanepollard.com/ I would be honored if anyone from ConceptArt were to visit it. I am amazed and enthralled by all that is done here.

    Slooooowly but surely.

Would he really need a cane if he had a claw?
    Perhaps it's a tad bit off-balancing.
