Just curious if anyone works with Photoshop or Painter on a laptop? If so, do you know what specs it requires? And are you able to do it effectively? I'll have a digital piece I'm doing but sometimes I just need to get out of the house! @.@
I do it all the time. Here are the specs for Photoshop CS4 and Painter 11 but I run CS3 on 1.9 GHz processor and 2 gigs of ram with little to no problems. Painter, on the other hand, gives me trouble with brush lag but I don't really care for Painter as it is.
It's possible I've been doing it for the past 6 months or so with an external monitor attached but the heat is killing me. So I recently upgraded to a tower with some nice specs. But if you're gonna go laptop go with a 64 bit OS and about 4-6 gigs of ram.
I work with Photoshop on my Tablet PCs all the time.
I primarilly used my lenovo X-61 Tablet PC, which has a 1.6 ghz Core 2 Duo, and although I upped the ram to 4gb, it ran photoshop just fine with 2gb. I've even been able to run CS4 on netbooks with little issues.
Anything with a Core 2 Duo should more then suffice.
Just watch out if its a ultra low voltage processor (ULV). They should still run photoshop fine, but the default battery settings might interfere with photoshops performance. I recently got a Asus Ep121 which has a 1.30 ghz ULV Core i5, that can turbo boost up 1.8ghz.
I was dissapointed that the Photoshop performance was noticablly worse then that of a 1.6 ghz core2duo. That is until I set the power settings for High Performance Mode, now it runs photoshop equally as the core2duo.
