    New to COW

Hey all! let me first say WOW. so many great works happening here. I'm new to the COW scene and I decided to do it because I am not doing art as much as i should. I have had some free time this week from school and work which takes up all my time when im not with my fiance but here is my WIP. I hope doing these COWs will make me find time to get some art in.
Crit/Comment welcome. great work everyone and i cant wait to see your finished works.
    Cheers

I like the design! The pose looks a little awkward with the hand covering the crotch, it's like we caught your character off guard and they are covering up? I'd move it out to the negative space on our left for a more dynamic and imposing pose.

Blankstate - Yeah I agree with the fishing tackle, I thought originally it could be some sort of decoration but he doesn't really look like the jewellery wearing kind of guy

I think this is the final update on mine, any crits or suggestions more than welcome

Well I decided I'll try this stuff even though I'm a total n00b! I'm hoping it'll help me get better design sense by picking up on what others here are doing! Hope I don't massacre your eyes o-o.

Jeez so much good stuff in here! /envy /applaud

    Can I play?

I've always thought that frogs had similar anatomy to humans. Have you ever dissected a frog? They're totally ripped! I just think they're cool. His weapon is tipped with a deadly anemone. One sting can kill a shark. They ride sharks. And wear shark's teeth and turtle shells.

NickyBeats: I'd suggest showing some teeth on the whale. In the thumbnail, since it's such a blobby shape, it kind of gets lost...just a thought

Suneater: I'd check that left hand again, something funky is happening!

DBed: Love that whale dude. Especially the barnacles on his shoulders.

Nengrana: It took me a minute....I was like..."hm...not sure if I like this...wait. OMG! Yes!" Love it.

Sakuranym : Thank you for these advice. Effectively to have to put off the arm makes her more impressive. (More " you will not pass " haha). As we say in France "Merci tout plein". (i realy love your blog/site :p)

sorry... busy working... now it is time for fun!!! Nothing fancy, just working on the pose! ps. at my place of work I do not draw backgrounds, it is not required and it would mean more time for me to produce the final piece and a waste of money for the company I work for. CHOW has always been an illustration kind of competition, it did not start that way, but as artist where getting better and better, the element of the background would increase the chances of winning and gain exposer in the community, but the final piece would, and should, still include a strong character concept. Keep in mind that the real prize is not winning, but improving, and we can only do that if we get good and constructive critics. In this case the character should be a guardian of Atlantis, and it should be understandable without any other elements (backgrounds, notes, etc), once that is reached the rest should not count, either you get a lot of votes or none whatsoever. The votes will arrive once you get better at "how" you are doing "what" you are doing. Ciao

This might be my final, I'm not sure yet. Tried making the colours look more like they were underwater.

    Smile

Dang DyingLolita, that's really starting to look good.

cool idea rgeorge, really cool. reminds me of Fantasia from Disney (i see an underwater waltz in their future). Is she a super poisonous man-o-war? Otherwise, how does she defend the city?

Here's my latest update. Been fooling around with Mr. Crab's armor. I'm digging the rasta/seawood look at the top right, or the greek armors down at the bottom.

What do you guys think? What armor are you feeling (or pieces there of?)

Will be posting him in the bg soon. Any crits and advice more than welcome! Cheers!

Quite like the greek armour idea - the achilles seems nice and simple, possible to add interesting details

Yeah, that's the idea, ethereal but dangerous! I'll come up with a harder weapon but can't think of one right now... I want to know whether there's a boob -warning in store because I don't want to be cut out in the last bit (if I make it) because of any photobucket nudity rules. Just checking...
