Just incase people don't go back a page as Badgers post was near the end -

EDIT: Bristol meet cancelled tonight! A lot of people can't make it, so its gonna be next wednesday 11th March- will be more people, and more worthwhile. Can still go if you want this evening but won't be hardly anyone there.

    Hello all

I moved to London some time ago and would like to ask if there are any good (or cheap or both) life drawing classes in the area (particulary NW/Central)?
    Preferably on Sundays or Mon-Tue-Wed.

    Cheers!

Thanks Smarty, nice to meet you, Oh and everyone else, from up North or anywhere else in the uk.

Anyway, Really looking for some meets up north. I tend to do a lot of preview parties but not many workshops or sketch meets, as most other artists I know just don't have the time, or the inclanation. So basically looking for people in this area who do that really. So if anyones organising any, let me know and hopefully, if I have some free time, it would be great to attend. Also does anyone know of any new artist groups in The north east? not including any too well known ones like the stuckists etc...

I'm just outside of Newcastle, about 10 mins away from the city centre. Yeah there doesn't seem to be a great deal. I know they have stuff on at the baltic etc, but they tend to be more gallery based stuff... You know, like contributing to other artists exhibitions etc...

I'm looking more for people to just do general art based stuff with, like sketching etc. Or groups in the area which aren't all from the same gallery/background etc (so their basically more imparial, not only into one way of thinking/doing things).

Basically I want to try new stuff, not get too stuck in one type of art scene, or genre of art. As i'm quite tied to my style already which I find a bit restrictive sometimes. As after a while people tend to expect you to make one type of art and get a bit upset when you start to deviate away from it.

Thing is it's so time consuming having to search through endless group manifesto's etc to find that their either crazy lol ! or have completely different values to yourself. So I thought I'd give here a try as it seems more open and relaxed.

Hello Reign, the candid arts drop in class is pretty good about having the supplies you need so you can just show up without having to bring anything. I think it's .25 for each sheet of paper and each piece of charcoal. Or if you like you can just bring pencil and a note book, it's up to you really, different people do different things(water colour, charcoal, pencil, pen,etc...).

Pao: That sounds great, I'll have to see if I can keep the 21st free.

    Hey guys,

I'll be in Londonium this Friday for a lil uni trip, but should be free to do my own thing in the afternoon until 4pmish, so if anyone's free to meet up or whatev then give me a shout. I defo want to re-stock on some pencils and do some studies somewhere though. Anything good going on atm?

Paul: If I have any money left over I'll join in too! Not sure if I'm willing to carry my laptop and wacom around though. If not, then maybe paints or something, for a change.

Chee, man... Love you an all, but at least some links to these places?..tut.. Oh, Venues. CandidArts seems like the most appropriate place for an informal gathering, and the Angel area has some hostels.
Another place I would also suggest is The Albany where I work. It has multiple rooms, cafe and main theatre, which would be perfect for demos and a chilled out atmosphere. LINK HERE check out the photo of the main theatre...

Pao - March 21st sounds cool with me too! - what would you like to draw? landscapes? Buildings? People? Places? I could recommend places, just need to know what your after...

Naomi - cant make Fri, as I'm working all day and in the evening. I'm working for this organisation, that helps people with learning difficulties. Apparently, theres a games/art room, and I'm in there. Should be easy and fun...I love being freelance! sorry, pointless happy rant!

Reign - what days are you thinking of going to Candid arts? If you go this wednesday, I'll make sure I'm there And dont worry, the tutor usually decides whats going on in the class; its just a matter of you turning up and drawing. Reign, like aefx has suggested, bring a sketchbook and pencils etc and see how you go from there. Theres no rush and gradually, you will become more comfortable with what you want to do.

aefx - I think theres a meeting tonight at the studio. Theres a board there to write ideas on for this group show. I made a suggestion that we produce work of our own, and exhibit as a collective of artists instead of a ground subject. I'm going tonight, so if you don't no worries. I'll 'take notes' as they say...

Yeah Tuesdays are the one day a week that I absolutely cannot make. Lemme know what they say though, some interesting things in the works! I'm going to try and get time to make a run this week to get Oil supplies and what not. What was the supplies store you recommended, Angel something or other?

Hello, happy than the idear make your interest, well i just think about a problem, is the Reloading of computer, if we are 10 for exemple i don't know how we could reload all laptop, i'm studying far from London so i don't know if it's possible in Pub or mac donald or anything else ?

Here is the actually list .

    -Alyssa milano
    -Ezidof
    -Andreewallin ( ? )
    -Chupacubra
    -Pao
    -molly ( ? )
    -Void ( ? )
    -aefx ( ? )

We are already 8, and imagine other people will come too, so really need to find a way to reaload all laptop :p

Naomi > yea hope you could come : ))))))) just before you vacation

Molly > yea cool, i was thinking like park, building, landscape, people on pub, it depend what you prefer ? if we are a lot we can make few teams ? and meet every 2 hours to reaload laptop .. don't know yet how organising it.

The best maybe should be to meet in Park ( like the last meet ) quite big place, with street, building, trees, an few people on the street, look perfect for practicing.

I'm in Oxford, and I was thinking of going to the Jam Factory life drawing classes.

I tried the tutored one last Tuesday -- was fun, but it was my first real class (I'm self-taught), so I wasn't as relaxed as I could be. I'm thinking of going again.

Who else goes? Is the Wednesday one much different from the Tuesday? Which has a higher turnout?

"the royal we" (lol) will be at Candid tonight so come and say hi if you're coming along too

Hi Lulie - I'm in Oxfordshire half the week & have vaguely been considering some life drawing in town - would probably be more interested in the wedsnesday night ones as I could incorporate it into my journey home from the smoke....

    hey Folks,

Vaughny Boy and I were at Candid last night, not sure if other folk were too, but I'm beginning to get pissed off with the choice of models! (RANT)
Nothing wrong with drawing the larger figure, but when they can't pose for gestures/warm ups/whatever you wanna call it, it becomes rather annoying, as there is no real 'variety' in their poses....*breathe*

Aefx - the group show will be an open subject, show work that is 'you' or what it is you produce in the studio etc etc...I think a proposal is needed, of some sort. Gillian will email minutes to everyone. Also, we've all been asked to keep an eye out for warehouses or derelict buildings we can take over if we have to leave Faircharm est. We are not counting on the re-development next to the BirdsNest, its a great idea, but not one that we can rely on in the next 3 months...

Pao - lets NOT meet in Mac Donalds, thats just the last place I will enter whilst I'm alive! ...Meeting in a Park is fine, if the weather allows. Finding somewhere to recharge your laptop, may be difficult. Not all pubs have there plug sockets on show for the public. It would be best if you knew what you wanted to draw, then I can suggest a few places.

Canary Wharf - this area has plenty of buildings to draw, shops, cafes - BUT permission is needed to draw in some areas due to security...
St James Park - not much there, just grass...
Greenwich/Greenwich Park - great view of London from top of the hill...
    Hyde Park,
    Regents Park,

Brick Lane, -plenty of bars that can hold a large amount of people, 1001 Cafe, Vibe Bar, 93ft East, food courts etc- also in this area Smithfield Market, The City...
South Bank - resturants, Royal Festival Hall, I think, has an area where people can congregate and stuff...
The British Museum that area under the new roof is pretty cool, if we get a table...not sure about poer sources...
St Pauls, Tate Modern, Tower Bridge,
Camden Town - markets, bars, pubs - the Stable Market has some interesting architecture and interesting people...

Bricklane and Camden are a favourite choice; kinda retro, ecclectic, interesting. Canary Wharf and Greenwich park too. But weather depending...

Some of you other folks, any suggestions would help immensley...

Hello! I'm new to this part of CA. I was wondering if I could join you guys on the 21st of March? I don't have a laptop but would love to sketch while you guys paint.

I'm also thinking of going to some of those Candid classes sometime in April (after I get my pay-check!). Anybody take the Saturday one day life drawing/painting workshops?
