    Productivity Killers.

So, I just bought Minecraft to see what the buzz was about. I played a little bit, and by the time I quit I realized that "a little bit" had been "five hours". So, Minecraft is my productivity killer...

my best friend and boyfriend. Best friend will come over at random times an we'll go o the comic book store than go to his house to read our loot and watch my little pony and hours later I'll remember I'm supposed to be drawing. Boyfriend comes over and its always snuggle time.

That and internet >> I think he internet distracts everybody.

Having a drink or two usually makes it a bit harder to start drawing. but for some reason it helps with gesture drawings. I'll post them in my sketchbook soon. But yeah. At least I know I'm not alone when those unproductive days hit.

I've got too many to list, but karmiclychee's example is a good one. Google reader kills my day, everyday. I trick myself into thinking that I'll improve at art by reading tutorials instead of drawing. As Stapleton Kearns said, you can't learn to swim by sitting on the couch reading about it - art is the same way. You've got to do it to learn it.

Once in a while, though, I come across a phrase or thought that is a productivity-booster. Hopefully everyone won't get mad if I write a few of them here?
What is the MOST that I can accomplish today?
Today I could die - would I have done anything with my life to be proud of?
The only future you'll get is the one you construct yourself.

And from Don Hahn and Walt Stanchfield's Drawn to Life. (This is an EXCELLENT book - I'm reading volume 2 now.)
People do what they are in the habit of doing.
If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always gotten.

Perhaps these seem like the sort of mediocre nonsense you see on motivational posters, but for some reason certain phrases resonate with me, causing me to pause and think... and draw.

    ARGH, I'm so angry--kidding
The first quote really struck me, because the natural thing to do after thinking about how much one could do in a day would be to try and do it.

Which means I gotta get off Minecraft...
Another productivity killer is going home to my family... don't get me wrong, they're my family, I love 'em, but it's so easy to get sucked into Super Smash Bros./ Call of Duty/ Battlefield 2 matches. That and my younger bro will buy any game I even hint at wanting.
And my fam just bought a boat.
Hmph. How do you say no to a cruise down a New England river on an almost new boat?

I have a big project deadline looming in the not too distant future. I also had a big bag of change which didn't really need counting.

    Another productivity killer - parties!
Even if you're not in them. xD Actually it would probably be more productive if you were in them. I'm just saying this because right now someone is having a party right next door and I haven't been able to concentrate on shit.

There was an end of the year art student dance party that I stumbled into last night in the art building. Not having been invited, I kinda smoldered alone a couple rooms over.
They were all drunk enough so that me showing up wouldn't have been too much of a problem, but yeah.
    Oh well.

Those are the among the worst...I feel for ya, man. However, boobs are eye-catching in terms of getting people to look at your art...it might not be such a bad thing...

Hopefully I can get to a point where I can write off the purchase of videogames from my taxes under "business research".

Yeah this site takes up WAY too much time...the most productive I ever was with my art was when I limited myself to only 30 minutes/day on CA. Maybe I should try that again.

Also, MSN takes a lot of time up. Damn.
