    Drawing on public transit

Today I drew people on the end of the day commute. It was very relaxing sitting there listening to my ipod staring at people in they're "Thank God The Day Is Over" state. This is one of the drawings that developed nicely from the session.

Studies on public transit and around town

This is an oil painting from a drawing I did on the subway (Bart) train in San Francisco.

    dawood_marion_painting_transit005.jpg

    dawood_marion_painting_transit005closeup.jpg

These are a couple demonstration sketches I did for my highschool student. I was showing them how to mix paint and paint from observation. Later I had a few students paint each other. My models were Maira and Skeletorah...lol

These are some gouache studies I've been doing lately around town.

    New Drawings

THis was a demo drawing I did while teaching a drawing course at Sharon Art Studio in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.
    dawood_marion 85.jpg

Here is another demo done in the same night.
    dawood_marion 87.jpg

I did this drawing on the subway train in San Francisco on my way to teach a drawing class. I like to get warmed up before doing demos. This girl was on a smart phone... i have tons of these types of drawings.

This is a good start. But there is a long way to go to make this quality work. You need to study lighting and effective use of color. The colors seem too similar and appear to be rather bland.

All I have to say is wow, I like the feel form nature of your images. It's amazing how little you have to draw in order to get the character of people that you see on your travels. Def will be looking in on your sketchbook and get inspiration for my own.

Thanks Steveland!! It is a little challenge of mine to try and nail likeness, expression/emotion and other information with just a few thoughtful strokes of the pen. I am glad to here you are inspired by my work... THanks for viewing

Nice stuff. I think I like the gouache studies in post6 the best. The light in the second one of them is nice.

    Drawing around town

These are drawings I did recently around town on the train, transit bus and at the school I teach at.

Did this drawing during yesterday morning commute. I got deep into it and really tried to "Create Life On The Paper."

Pulled this one off during todays commute. It was an Asian man sitting directly in front of me. I know he saw the beginning but then I tilted my book more towards me so he didn't see the final outcome and still not sure if he knew I was drawing him.

This was a quick warm-up piece to get me back in to painting. I haven't been painting in seems like almost a year. 2012 I will be making my work available to the public so I will be doing more paintings and other work. This is another painting in an ongoing series that I call "The Black Woman Collection." A tribute to our mother.

I found this box at a thrift store. I sanded it, textured the surface, gave some yellowish glazes and finally painted the woman on it. I am also going to paint a different woman on the remaining 3 sides. Once Im done painting all of the sides I'm going to replace the wooden knob at the top with a jewel knob.

    Untitled
    acrylic on wood

Here is a similar project I did in the past where I painted on an object. This one was protein powder jar:

    Beautiful girl on transit

I did this drawing during my commute returning from teaching today on the transit bus. This was a very difficult drawing to complete because she kept looking up at me every few minutes as she was busy on her smart phone. Not sure if she liked what she saw or just checking to see if I was looking at her. I had to really connect with her energy to be able to know when she was going to look at me. Don't know if she knew what I was doing. We did eventually make eye contact once or twice, after the second time she changed her position drastically so I started another drawing of someone else to give her a break so when she would look up I wouldn't be looking at her. After about 6-8mins she turned back in position and I turned the page back to complete the drawing of her.

She had a beautiful spirit as she smile apparently because of what someone was texting her. Her smile would linger on her face as she would stop reading texts momentarily to glance out the window of the transit bus.

Love your pen drawings, they are full of life, but I agree with walsh Fever that your color and your values still need work.
