    James Hopfenblatt Portfolio

Hello! My name is James Hopfenblatt, I'm 25 and Just graduated as an Architectural Studies from the University of Missouri.
As you can see, I'm very passionate about painting/drawing and would love to work in the movie/3D animation industry or even do some freelance Illustration.

Where I would like to be:
    architectural firm
creating illustrations for magazines, books, etc.
    character design interests me
    Animation 3D an 2D
Going to Illustration Academy in June hopefully

    Struggles: Lighting, Design, backgrounds, ideation.
Creating backgrounds is always a huge problem of mine.

Question: What field should I persue? I honestly love doing all of these things and will always keep doing them regardless of what field I work on, but which one of my skills is the most marketable?

enough talk!..here's some of my work:

You've got some decent stuff going on in here, but there's a bit of a "scratchy" feeling to a lot of your digital work that's off-putting. It seems like your getting into all these little hairy strokes before nailing the main solid forms. You're also blending a little haphazardly in a few areas and makes it feel a bit muddy and unfinished.

Try to blend things solidly for a while, using a hard brush setting and hard strokes, with similar colours.

Thanks a lot Jason!...am definitely looking into all of the TAD, VLP or IA summer....will decide soon!. I'm also thinking some industrial design...I don't know..hahah I'm confused at the moment obviously.

@Jason Rainville...Thanks for the critique man!..thats definitely an issue for me, I think it has to do with my actual messiness..I can be pretty impatient sometimes ..I'll try to follow your suggestion...hopefully I'll figure it out soon!
