    render study

JRTribe Thank 'ya, had a hard time with the one I think your talkin about Colors got the better of me again.

Taking the same approach to returning to basic studies as as few other people here on CA - Matt Kohr in particular. Nothing original here, just wanted to try and figure out rendering and blending. More to come. Also working on circles and ovals - as lame as that sounds I have such a hard time with getting them to look right in perspective. Bowls are the perfect challenge

    thumbusted

Trying to come up with some ideas for my first portfolio of the semester. Having a lot of trouble finding subject matter that would work well.

rumpenstiltzkin Hey thanks for coming back! Thanks, I plan on doing more of those studies for blending/rendering practice.

Spending some time in my notepad doing exercises - been busy doing projects so haven't had the time I would like to draw more. Typical excuse I guess.

    Hey There!

Really nice variety in your SB, love the enviro stuff!
I also dig the sketchy and gritty feel to your char designs...maybe watcjh out that they won't get too undefined in some parts even for sketches.

...and there is always a reason for a donkey jumping bravely through fire!

    keep em coming!

    cheers

    Andi

Tryin to bring a little more forethought into forms instead of being a panzy and hinting at stuff that Im otherwise too afraid to attempt to draw.

    Hey everyone! Latest little batch.

@rumpenstiltzkin: Thanks! The savanna turned out nicely. Always surprised that the quicker ones turn out the most interesting.

Your thumbs from post 35 are great! It's a giant puzzle with multiple dimensions, like staring into a still lake that has a sunken MC Escher ruin inside of it. As a suggestions, maybe next time try incorporating some softer texture into them. There's a lot of chaos with the hard edges and patterning. Maybe it'll help loosen up some ideas next time.
I don't have much else to say other than your sketchbook is AMAZING and you should keep showing us more.

Wow quite a few comments thanks for all of them!!! Only one piece to share but I felt guilt about replying to comments without submitting something new. This is a Japanese Garden scene for a social action game im working on. Same game as the african savanna scene up above.

@Somelar: Thanks so much, please feel free to stop by and critique whenevery ou get a chance!!

@WillGreen: Thanks! I am really trying to give the environments a little more kick than what im used to, so I'm glad youre liking it!

@lemming-clone-: Great idea, I really dont know why I avoid adding in textures as much as I do, I need to start embracing what it can do for the though process, especially in speed paints!

@rumpenstiltzkin: Thanks so much for continually supporting this thread! Colors are my greatest weakness, I can't help making really bright colors in a piece to the point of distraction. I need to reserve myself a little more.

@Mawh Thanks for bringing me back to that piece I forgot about it haha! I did them all in quick sucession to one another to get some ideas out but completely forgot about it later, There are a few ones in there I think I would like to push.

@knut-: To me variety is the key to learning art fast. That and continual practice, so I try my best to actually do a bunch of different things to see what I can figure out. Thanks for the compliments!

    dah dah dun

Japan had to be re-edited severely for game convenience, in the process ended up liking it a bit more than the old japan. Though it had to become monochormatic

Cool the return of the flea

Hey everyone been a while, time for an update. Sorry for the delay. As always though you can find me at appylon.deviantart.com

Im beginning of thinking about looking for commission work to spend my spare time with anyone know how to begin that hunt? I feel so sheltered.

I have to say how stunned I am at Bumskee's sketchbook I had to try and do a few versions myself. The smudge technique he uses is incredibly innovative to me.

    More Speeds

    :

@rumpenstiltzkin: Hey man thanks so much for stopping by with the kind words, love ya man

@Satupeikko Thanks glad you like it ALL haha. Hope to see ya come back!

I was awesomely inspired by Bumskee's use of the smudge for these two speeds It feels so much more intuitive to do some types of materials, and to achieve that oil/acrylic smear.

@Orkimede: Wow, thanks! I wish leveling was as easy as it is in games. I'm glad you like my dirty hobo one, haha. My hand shakes a lot and i think it shows pretty badly in that one, but since it's so messy to begin with I guess it adds a little more flavor to it.

Here is random sketches from my notebook then added to cool looking cgtexture paper, yay.

Was a little rough with some of the character red tie sketches, just getting used to this stuff. I would like to draw more cartoon characters, they are actually fun.
