A long overdue still life. Had to rush it because I started late in the day thanks to a family event... lol
And i spent a whole hour trying to figure out how the damn pen tool worked, leaving me with one hour of daylight to render it, and finally after it got dark I had to guess... so it's kinda sloppy.

Oh and I looked at yesterday's photo study and felt like I screwed it up totally...gaaaghhhh sad.

Mila: lol I took around 2 hours rendering, I continued after it got dark.

The following is just a mish mash of stuff I wanted to practice: pen tool, fire, smoke/clouds, gestures, perspective, and picking colours without ref, lighting an image without ref, textured brushes. Plane is reffed from a bunch of different images... so it's kinda weird looking.

I was also a little sick of having all my stuff be technical exercises so I tried to spice it up a bit but I failed... I finished the passenger jet before realising the people will have to be really small if i want to follow the rules of perspective... so ugh.

it's the most boring action scene ever... it fails at inciting any excitement in me, and I guess anyone for that matter, and this took really long... I'm bad at lighting images from mind. 4 hours?

First one is warmup of the day- landscape doddle, 10 min

The second is a painting that took a ludicrous amount of time... First attempt at any sort of architecture and constructing it was a nightmare lol. reffed. It's more of a WIP though... not quite finished but I need to call it a day for now. Referenced one of my own photos closely, which explains the boring colours.

Thanks for posting! Really appreciate it!

Sad to say I won't be posting for the next couple of days, going out of town for 4 days. I'll still try to draw though.

ugh yesterday's's photo study went like shit. Worked on it for way too long before deciding to call it a day, hence the crappiness. Totally screwed up somewhere, but I can't tell. Just that I don't like the end result at all.

Internet went down yesterday and couldn't even post it.. lol

Didn't mange to finish today's study. I planned to do a photo study of some vehicles in an environment and place some figures from mind in them just to force myself to think more about color, but it was so difficult for me I took ages. The plane was the easy part, after that I really didn't know what to do... sigh. The other vehicle in question I was planning to turn into a mech, but I'm feeling a lot of inertia to just put down some shapes to rough out a design, hence the empty space. Spent a lot of time looking at other artists' work to try and solve this problem.

One of those days I feel like I'm not making any progress.

Here it is anyway, the wip. Gonna go sleep now and finish it tomorrow!

The surfer girl painting feels almost like a photograph. Well done!

The WIP from yesterday I want to put on the back burner because I feel like I'm not ready to paint stuff straight from my head just yet, but had to submit for a sense of closure so it stops pestering me to finish it with my half assed level of skill.

I'll be back to finish it.

Study from photo again. This one made me think long and hard about some stuff. Mostly about how much I suck. Everything in this one was a disaster. Doing the initial sketch, blocking in, colours. How I felt when I was painting it. Struggle to the very end. but since I promised myself to put all my studies here, here it is.

A big fan of Algenpfleger's, decided to give an interior an attempt, done in his style. Makes for good practice too i guess?

Still missing an eye for detail apparently, nowhere close to as convincing as his interiors. This took bloody long to paint, lol.

Reffed from some photo snagged off tumblr.

That last one looks so unreal ! Job well done mate.
Don't worry about the proces of your earlier portrait study; the colours are striking and the end result speaks for itself. Don't give up.

Mila: Thanks for the kind words!

A crappy photo study. Rushed the face and hair, may polish it up tomorrow if it irritates me lol. Spent so much time on the sketch for this because I kept screwing up the proportions. Poor choice of photo to do a study too, the lighting sucks and I'm not good enough to enhance it. I was taking so long to choose one I just gave up and settled. lol

Another half assed WIP I'm putting on the back burner for lack of skill to finish it. Trying to apply what I've learnt from my studies. No ref.

Yes, bad colour choice. I know...

    Edit: cropped out the nonsense.

Love the photo study - Love the skin tone - Although the skateboard looks like its balancing on the side of her foot. Also love the texturing on the table cloth

Interior from imagination in an attempt to apply what I've learnt. Took a long time...

School has started, damn. I must keep up the practice no matter what.

one more photo study, don't really like it. Trying to learn about strong sunlight, and how to depict it. Shouldn't have went with an overexposed photo though.

feeling down lately, I no longer have a clear direction in my studies... dawdled around for 2 days noodling this very complex building I was doing. scrapped it in the end.

So, I did a simple landscape from reference. 2-3 hours, stayed away from textured brushes.

tried to push for realism, but I think i may have fallen into the uncanny valley instead... still quite bad with edges; don't know which ones to lose and wich ones to keep.

    reffed from photo of course.

Bummed around for most of the day oohing and ahhing at other artists' works again... and watching some anime. Missing the older and better animes. Current ones are so... meh.

Nothing much to show for today, except for a few quick and dirty sketches in pencil and two half hour digis from mind.

I kept starting then scrapping longer studies too... don't really know what's wrong. Not having enough time before school to have confidence to start a longer study is one reason, but it's more of an excuse. I'm getting lazy now that I have 4 two hour classes a week? Wait till school really starts! I can't let this happen! Arghhhhhhhhh

But then again, social situations (and the prospect of them) really drain me. need to get over that or i'll have no energy left to draw.

    Resolve!
