Thread: Sketch Book
April 11th, 2011 #1
Hello, everyone in ConceptArt.org
I'm new here. My Name is Miguel, 21 years old. I moved to USA about 4 years ago from Macau. My English is not that well. So, if I make any grammar mistakes or misspelling some words, please forgive me. Thank you.
When I was a senior in high school I took a night portrait class at a community college. I think it was in 2009. Then, the first year of college I also took a drawing class. I was looking for some art school in San Francisco, but I was discouraged by the cost of it.
Since then I haven't drawn at all. I guess I wasn't serious at that time and didn't understand the whole deal of art. I didn't know the importance of practice . I was wasting my time for the past few years, sigh. And now, I'm taking a color class in my community college. I found it I actually like to paint, although my paintings look like crap . So, I start drawing again. I want to improve, I want to be able to draw and paint from my imagination. I'm inspired after reading some of the posts and sketchbook in the forum. I decided to start a sketchbook to keep myself motivated to draw everyday. Hopefully, I'll get some critiques from you guys, I really appreciate it.
My main goal now is start from the basics. I want to focus on anatomy first since it is the hardest thing to draw for me. Also I would like to practice value and colors, any suggestions of how to study them effectively? Thank you!
Here are some of the portraits I did back in 2009.
Here are some of the drawings I did in the drawing class I took.
Here are the paintings for the color class. All are using photo reference.
This one was done on a canvas panel, it was pretty cool to paint on a canvas LOL, really like the texture surface. I don't know why the Acrylic paints dry slower on the canvas.
Here are the figure 60s I did last night.
Figures from magazine.

I was busy with school stuff so I didn't draw much.I need to focus myself to sketch more next week. Try to draw the head from imagine angle, just couldn't get it right. Guess it's time to draw more heads!! Is it worth to buy a skull anatomy model for life drawing study?
Here are some of the sketches and studies.
