Sushy: Thank you sushy, the middle ones from imagination, still working on it though.

aolifour: I love your work, thank you for stopping by.

    kimozabbi: ?

I felt really down today, I was lame and let it distract me. I've been really happy overall lately though!

Was really nice though it snowed a bunch today and my friend and I took a long walk around at night and listened to music on our mp3. Also had some nice conversations with friends on skype.

Did a bit of work on that image but I'll just post these for today. There studies, trying to learn how to paint leaves and trees.

Thank you for looking, I'll feel better tomorrow.

Kick-ass studies in post 361 and 381. Keep doing the value studies and don't let bad moods get you down for too long, we all get like that sometimes. Just shrug it off and draw more another day!

    Looks good alex : ))

THIS one has a very nice composition.
Because you have some problems with composition right now, I would suggest to pick up Jack Hamm's environment book.
Check it out if you haven't yet.

I merged my old sketchbooks together with my new one, sorry for the confusion they were on an old account it my old account now made this thread haha.

Still trying to figure this out, I think it was better with the bench.. I just felt it was a really random bench that made no sense. Was basically just in the middle of everything!

Computer died yesterday don't think ill get it working again for awhile. Got my tablet pc working for now, no pen though can't find it. Only one usb works but thats all I need for my wacom. Just need to get used to useing the buttons on the wacom instead of keyboard. There isnt one!

Luckily i wasnt to far into this image so just repainting over low quality jpeg is fine.

Thought it was for best though maybe some time away from internet would do me good?

Sorry guys I wont be on skype for a bit!

Also some angry birds I drew with a friend on friday. I couldnt stop giggleing and he couldnt understand why.

Your sketchy photo studies are really sweet, I love the colours.
They look so bright and lively, yet not unnatural or strange.

Ok I think I'm done with this image, onto the next!

For past few weeks I've been really enjoying thinking about the "world" that I am trying to portray with each image. It's fun trying to think about how a scene would function if it was real. How to tie all the elements together, how they all function, the mood, how people feel or what there thinking and what they are doing.

Idk I sort of feel like I forgot about that way of thinking when I began to try and learn to draw.

Anyways here is new image, took a few tries till I found something that worked, but I more or less knew exactly what I was going for before starting this time.

Some kind of mock turn based rpg game. Fun trying to piece together what everything is. Still not quiet there in my mind.

Your design is what's lacking. There is no rhythm or difference in edges, barely any value changes or attention to chroma.

This is why you're forced to overwork everything and you're not finishing paintings.

I want to see a focal point.

    look at this: http://www.itchstudios.com/psg/art_tut.htm#focus_points
you should use all of these 4 elements of composition to their maximum extent, in every single painting. In fact, in the last year I've discovered that composition is much more important than anatomy or perspective.

Focus on the design, screw everything else.

Good to see you're still posting though.

Oh and also your figures are stiff. Think more about opposing masses, and dynamic balance.

Vatsel: Thanks for writeing dude it's good to hear from you, I hope your doing well!

Thanks for the link it's prob one of the best tutorials out there. I'll just keep making personal images and trying my best to push each one further then the last.

I want to rethink this image more I don't feel the idea is clear.

First I want the creature they are battleing to be other worldy, alien. It's guarding something, and has been for a very long time. It does not use physical attacks it's attacks are purly psycological. It's immune to weapons, but it is weak to spells or anything that creates a large concussive force. The creature makes eerie ghostly humming noises

I dont think the environment ties together with this creature in my mind. The characters need more work too.

Anyways I'll work on it some more before bed

Just a quick update before bed. I realized my problem was I had no design to the creature. I needed to combine multiple things and place at least one familar idea together.

The familar idea would be the star thats more or less its being. I think stars are devine, they are glorious and celestrial.

Then I started thinking about dream catchers or native ceremonial head dresses and feathers. They kind of fit into the theme of ancient, forgotten temple. dream catchers kind of deal with the mind, and headdresses are worn on your head.

So more or less a burning starcwithva headdress?

Sweet stuff mate. You starting to get good understanding of values. Focus now more on anatomy and do less studies. But push every one you make as far as you can. You'll improve everytime you do so. Trust me xd Cheers.

I like the comps are done in black and white paper. They read well even when small. Thanks for the anime music links. I haven't watch that particular show yet but you have good music taste.

Make a sketchbook happy, feed it a tip to improve!

Ramalooke: Thanks so much dude, hope your doing well.

While I do plan to sometimes just sketch for the fun of it and for some spontanious ideas. I will be focusing on pushing things as far as I can. I feel I'm learning a lot and it's something I need to do in order to one build a portfolio, but second I also I think it will eventually teach me a process.

Right now I have trouble making images as good as I can, and I need to fix so many mistakes I make om early stages and just realize things just don't work like I thought they might.

I think after a year or 2 of doing this I will make much less mistakes like this and start getting it more or less right in early stages. I think we start to know what will be made before it's made if we make a lot of images.

    Chazillah: Thank you I will!

dlincoln83: Thank you so much, I'll check out your book tomorrow, I'm glad I inspired you!

dylanj70: I could work much harder then I do, but it's pointless saying that! I just must simply work! I thank you

Pigeonkill: Thanks for stoping by, I'm glad you like my small thumb sketches on paper. I'll share more with you soon.

    ***

More work and more changes. But I think again for the better. I think the image will turn out ok. It's a little strange but I think that's ok.

I'll finish the bottom study tomorrow morning.
