    First Contact WIP

Second posting here and working on a new piece. I'd really like some critiques on this WIP. Still in a very rough stage but i'd like to nail composition and value structure before I take up the level of detail. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Right there now is some trouble with the perspective on the child pointing up. Also the body language of the other kid doesn't make it look like they're too excited about what he's are seeing. He seems distracted by something off to right of the panel. If this was really first contact, he should be jumping up and down in excitement and wonder. Remember that you're trying to tell a story of awe and wonder with this picture. The children should reflect that. I hope that helps!

Yep...right now it says, "Look Daddy's home!" And Mom is like, "Ho-hum....well, he can finally mow that field." In other words...it lacks any of the drama of a first contact scenario.

Also - you've got a lot going on...barns and people and ships and big rocks and moons...what you don't have going on is perspective and light. Work those out first. Use reference. And watch tangents...there are a few.

    What would Caravaggio do?
