Not to poison the well or insult any of the entries for the past red riding hood chow, but it would be really refreshing to see a reinterpretation that wasn't essentially "red riding hood is badass" or "red riding hood is hot."

The reason that last Red Riding Hood challenge had so many entries like that was because the topic actually specified; Modern & Sexy as a requirement.

Whilst we are not putting any restrictions on the 'type' of characters, it would be nice to see some interpritations of Red, other than sexy.

Thank you Jason for pointing that out.

Ha! Didn't even notice that. Wouldn't really think everyone would need that stipulation

Really REally not sure if I can get this done as away for 2 weeks. Im going with the whole aquatic theme, with the wolf either being a guy in deep sea suit surrounded by seawolf's (yes they are really, ugly eels), or a SEAWOLF mutant creation!, which should fit with the aquatic theme also. As for Red Riding Hood, hmmm... sexbot?

Okay, I've done a N number of renditions of RRH and I couldn't resist. Thank goodness for the two week deadline!!
The the story by itself is layered with metaphors and I'm adding my own layers to this. If someone's already done this (besides Angela Carter's fantabulous retelling of the fairytale) I'm sorry, I'm doing it because it fitted the topic and I just generally HAVE TO!!! I'm borrowing the Jungian concept of the anima and the animus, according to Wiki:
The anima and animus, in Carl Jung's school of analytical psychology, are the two primary anthropomorphic archetypes of the unconscious mind, as opposed to both the theriomorphic and inferior-function of the shadow archetypes, as well as the abstract symbol sets that formulate the archetype of the Self. The anima and animus are described by Jung as elements of his theory of the collective unconscious, a domain of the unconscious that transcends the personal psyche. In the unconscious of the male, it finds expression as a feminine inner personality: anima; equivalently, in the unconscious of the female it is expressed as a masculine inner personality: animus.
Okay, you guessed it, the wolf signifies Red's masculine animus, and comes alive as a protector spirit, influencing her to ill or good according to the situation. Situation being a post-apocalyptic world. I don't know if I have a chance in hell of pulling this off, but I'm gonna try!!

rgeorge, sorry but i think your piece doesnt quite fit to the topic. We want to see redesigns of the caracters from The red riding hood, not new characters made by combining the attributes of the characters from The Red Riding Hood. It would be very difficult to tell what your piece is about if you do so, so please stick to the topic

Hey guys, hurry up. I'm almost done already!

All jokes aside. I'm having a hard time and a ball at the same time. I gave her a bit more confident face (after repainting it about 50 gazillion times..), changed the pose in a bit more 'dynamic crouch' added some sunlight etc.

This is trickier than I thought. It's like some secret bit of my brain doesn't want to redesign RRH. It's blocking all ideas out. The symbolism is too nice already. So this is it so far.

I'm thinking of a martial arts approach. Red is doing battle with a Ninja of the Shadowolf clan. That's my initial idea. It may change as I keep sketching.

    CHOW

Hey guys, I've never done a CHOW challenge before, but this is my take on red. I'm doing an aquatic/mermaid theme... any crits welcome for now! I'll probably try to fit this character in a illustration so this is not the final pose or anything, or design for that fact.

emerging — I have an intuous 3 and on occasion I've had to reinstall the drivers for it. I'm not sure that it's the same problem you're experiencing but that might work.

Way to lead out, Pixeltuner! I love your colors, as always.

I'm just futzing. It's been said already but there's a lot of directions I'd like to go with this one... lol

Hmmm, I'm totally intrigued by this approach. Damn shame I didn't think of it but I'll be curious to see where you take it.

K this is just a quick attempt here. I was thinking she was some kind of warrior. The ol' reversal on the wolf... maybe he'll be a carcass or something...

Wow, just took a look through a lot of the wips, i'm happy to see a lot of different ideas. I just wanted to get down some main color ideas as soon as possible for this thumbnail.

There is nothing to say about that, i mean you are right, but people like to see some cool works, that is bottom line

I'm thinking of Little Red Riding Hood and the Hunter as the cover of a cheesy harlequin romance novel, with soft windblown hair and dreamy, smoledring gazes. Some overly sentimental tripe about, "He saved her from the wolf, but who would save her from the fire of her lust..."

Trying to decide on a pose. Please excuse the crap quality of these roughs, just trying to get some ideas down as quickly as possible.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the
mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all
science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who
can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe,
is as good as dead: his eyes are closed.
