I have not posted here in awhile but I thought I would pipe in on this discussion. I to have been a contributor to Painter for the last 3 versions. I have always used Painter to sketch in but I usually use Photoshop to finish my renderings then maybe go back with Painter to add some texture work and natural media feel to it. I have been testing and using Painter 12 and it truly is a good program. I have really enjoyed it and it is hands down the best one I have used yet. I can's say too much info about the program but I really feel a lot of people will like it.

I am looking foward to v12. My hopes in updates, in whatever fancy new things they may have added is a much smoother and responsive brush engine system. Some of us LOVE using our large size brushes.

Photoshop, even Paint tool Sai is great in brush responsiveness with large brushes (500px and over haha).

I love painter be with it since they sold it in a paint can.
I won my Truevision Award because of Painter.
Been a Beta tester for them.
But They need to step it up Big time.
True 64 bit speed is needed.
PS is kicking their butts right now.
Sad Painter 12 might be their last release if it is Weak.

I don't think corel ceases painter development, and I'm pretty sure it's sales are growing too.

Look at amazon.com review progression - generally favored painter 6, bashed 7 - 9, and honey coated reviews for painter 10 and 11.
Judging by 20 best things painter selection on corel website, they have a strong photopainters niche right now
(they even released a portable iPhotoTrace app for iOs, how funny is that? )

on the fourth day of glitchmas my painter™ gave to me
four random crashes, three broken brushes, two system hangups & one corrupted workspace

Well if you look at the Honey Coated reviews on Painter 11 on Amazon, they were a pretty significant number of Vine reviews. I'm a Vine member but a lot of those people received a several hundred dollar program for free. Of course it's gonna be great for them!

    http://www.amazon.com/review/RYOIUWH...tag=&linkCode=

    http://www.amazon.com/review/R35G9C6...tag=&linkCode=

    http://www.amazon.com/review/R8QSGYI...tag=&linkCode=

    http://www.amazon.com/review/R1KSE6S...tag=&linkCode=

But you kinda get the idea. There were some great Vine reviews that despite whether or not I agree with the rating at least gave a decent rundown of the software. Not "I gave it to my daughter and she played with it" review that tells you nothing

    AndyCarolan,

If you can find an amazing deal on painter 11 go for that....why you say, because upgrade price is usually half off, someone please correct me if I am wrong. So If you can get 11 for lets say 100 bucks that inevitably counts towards an upgrade when 12 comes out. Even just clicking the site now (not searching deals) the full version is 199 reg 399 with upgrade 199. Now say the new one comes out at 399 and upgrade 199 (I dont know if thats the usual price) well then you can grab it technically for a dollar less by buying painter 11 now. I got it for 99 by clicking through some hoops maybe u can do the same. Its like giving a down payment on painter 12, with 11 as a prize for waiting.......wow that was longer then I planned but you get the idea. Something to munch on.

My Website I am available for work

    Thanks GuruGaia,

I understand what you mean, I do however already qualify for the upgrade price as I am a user of Corel Draw X5 which is listed as an eligable product

    Cheers

Indeed it is! I thought you were joking at first till I went to Corel's web page:

    http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satelli...3#tabview=tab0

Been playing with Painter 12 for the last 2 hours. Ya gotta love it! :-)

First thing I did was use a very large impasto brush (150) to see if Painter could keep up. Folks, it looks like we now have real time brush strokes, even with large brushes.

I'm using the 64 bit version to take advantage of my Athlon x64 processor and also Painter 12 now uses 6500 GB of my 8 GB of ram (memory)

And this is only the beginning. So far, so great! :-)

Is there a way to restore the old brush resizing? It's so slow and ugly now :/

It now remembers the HSV setting on the color sliders, nice!

Haha, gotta love how they let you set the cursor angle but you can't it preview so you have to trial and error until you set it the way you want, it let's you pick a color? But doesn't change anything and there's always a white halo around the black triangle, as always I would love to hear the reasoning and thinking behind these decisions...

Undo takes so long to register.

That's it for now, gonna try the new real watercolors.

WOW what a buggy mess, everything lags, it crashed now.

Why is it when I'm running Painter 12 it makes a bunch of circles when I press the pen on the desktop or a folder? It looks the same like when you have ink services On but I checked and they're still disabled, when I close Painter the pen no longer makes them.

It definitely uses all my CPU cores and threads, impasto is fast.

Thanks for the links to Youtube, I just watch a few and I'm sold on the hotkey enhancements dealing with the on the fly brush adjustments and temporal color palette alone.
I'll try this out tomorrow after I finish this AutoCAD build. Looks like a winner so far though
Anybody tried the transform tools yet? I know cut and paste was a bit of a prob for me in 11 at times.

Preferences. Oh, and the top item there is pretty cool. No more jumping around switching from freehand strokes to straight line strokes... just rotate canvas and hold down shift while drawing

did they get rid of the brush creator?????? If so it's really one of the best recent decisions in development

love the new photoshop round brush (it's not exactly the same as PS, but still something), glow/airbrush brushes look much smoother with it
    love the expandable navigator
multithreading works for round camel hairs - that's my personal biggest favorite
love that it's so fast and I can use advanced brush ghosting and it doesn't slow everything down

the new interface is truly horrifying, but I'll customize it to my needs soon (actually, throwing my painter x workspace in helped a lot)

so far so awesome, love it

upd. importing painter x workspace destroyed all the shortcuts, including even the same ones as zooming in/out, new file, etc., so I basically should have backed up painter 12 shortcuts to external file before importing my older prefs.
    Lesson learned.

upd 2: brushes have blending modes! looooove it

upd 3: mixer palette seems to lack separate tools icon for brush, palette knife, colour picker, etc? I don't know if it's just me, but it's really confusing

For the way I work and the brushes I use this version is a huge improvement, especially on speed.
7 layers in and no lag on my brushes.. fantastic

Just installed and messed around only a couple of minutes, but at the moment I feel like I'm loving it!

I've been a bit spoiled by the Photoshop CS5's zoom-function (which is similar that's been in the 3D-programs for years) so I wished it would come to Painter as well, but that's not that big of a deal.

Can't wait to try it out some more.

(should we move into painter 12 thread, or keep posting here?)

It crashed a few times during the day for me
painting was really stable, even with kaleidoscope tool and quite advanced brushes, but it crashes while saving - UGGGHHHHH
(I'm saving all my files as psd, and at least it doesn't overwrite them with corrupted data)

Wow, it's out for less than a day and you're already posting tips. That's fast going

Re-sizable navigator palette pic...I think I'm in love.

You can pick up some extra content on Painter home page. (resources tab)
I highly recommend downloading the workspaces and trying the "Whats New" work space. Gives you a nice overview of the new functions and features

I like the horizontal tool bar options (edit > preferences ). The UI seems improved but clunky. The downloadable workspaces are nice, but confusing. Will work on my own tonight.

Brush response has been dodgie on my Vista setup (quad core, 8 GB ram, GeForce 9800). Gonna throw it on my Win 7 Setup (I7 QuadCore, 12GB ram, GeForce GT 445m) tonight and put it through the paces.

I see about 3000 kaleidescope Android clones in the near future
