    Hi,

    I don't know what these guys will tell you, but I sure know that everyone I worked with for 18 years on the drafting board used rulers, french curves, triangles, ellipse templates, parallel rules, and whatever it took to do the job.

    It had/has nothing to do with talent or skill. It's purely common sense.

    Of course, if one has something to prove, it may be another story.

    Just teasin'.

    Do what makes sense to you.

    If you need a straight line, and you want it to be straight, not "artsy" looking, use a ruler.

    If you want your drawing to have a freehand look, then draw everything freehand.

    And... a good "rule of thumb" is not to use an ellipse template to draw a thumb.. or anything organic, living, breathing, growing. Natural shapes are usually not that precise.

    thanx man...yea someimes i just get to orried about the "rules" and not the plain feel of it all
