ROUND #208, the Titan Warbeast
ROUND#208, the Titan Warbeast
This week's creature is going to be HUGE in all aspects. As many of you may know, in Greek mythology before the Gods became the rulers of the Earth, they had to defeat the Titans. This race was often interpreted as super race with god-like powers and a colossal size.
Your job is to design a warbeast/creature that Titans used in a war against the Gods. If you can pick an existing Titan and create his own personal warbeast - even better! Things to keep in mind: please make the creature original; minimal to no accesories; whether you want to include the bg or not is your choice but there has to be an indication of how enormous this warbeast is; really think about the weight of this giant and try to incorporate it in your concept/painting.
Can't wait to see your amazing work guys! Good luck and have fun!

As some of you will notice. This weeks cow is being run by emerging as a reward for reaching and now surpassing 6 stars.
Awesome topic dude! This one should be epic!
Hmm gonna give this one a try.
My First C.O.W.
Looking for Feedback! Please visit my sketchbook..
Awesome, great concept. Now to get busy thinking of ideas.
A rough start at work.....
Waaah, nice theme!
Think I found what I am going to work from. This combines (most) all the Titans into one Creature. Tomorrow I will get cracking on how to actually realize this vision (and within the COW rules). Gonna be real fun.
I think I've settled on Oceanus, lots of potential for super awesome creatures for the Ocean to have at his disposal.
nice to see you guys excited!
Lege1 - nice start but i would watch out not to have too much of a humanoid form in your creature
Ok, so i think i'm biting off a big chunk this week, my first C.H.O.W and now my first C.O.W, hope i can keep up with you peeps.
Anyway, heres a quick sketch for my warbeast i busted out in the student center waiting for my next class to start, going with Lelantus
suuuuuuuper quick sketch.
Emerging: For sure dude, I am going to follow through with the sketch and try to get that humanoid esq out of it...Just let me know if you think it will be valid and I will make corrections and so forth. Also, BIG congrats on being a COW King! Very cool to see you rockin the forum.
Sketching out a little beastie for Iapetus..
Kambei Shimada Welcome to COW!~ Great to see more new participants. Work fast, think about what suits the brief and be prepared to change things that look off. Have fun.
Lege1 Great start so far, I'll agree with the humanoid point that emerging made. The composition doesn't really say threatening beast to me so far, it says I'm standing here look at me. Love the mask idea.
DefiledVisions Ohh hunchback, looks freaky, I'm thinking im seeing a weird muscular likelike face. Cool creepy i like. Also veins i totally see veins.
,empyrean Nice tones so far, but you're creature doesn't look like its very threatening or war like. It looks like a goblin head with tentacles at the moment. I do understand that it was a quick doodle though.
Den Grimme Raeber Ohhh nice concept. I like that you're putting them together to make an uber beast. It's going to be hard to get a good balance, think about what things make each character unique and the symbolic elements of them to try and get an uncomplicated design.
DoctorDigits Great sketch and starting ground. The city gives a good comparison of size and contrast. It's going to be hard balancing out the creature to landscape elements, so i suggest giving the picture some head room for breathing.
(lark Great quick sketch, Very intimidating and the reflection is going to look neat. Great painterly style so far. I know that the creature is going to change a lot from this sketch can't wait to see where you go with it. Little static but im sure youll fix that.
Snafu Interesting sketch so far, I'm liking the colours and the subject matter, underwater yes? The body looks a little humanoid for COW, but it's hard to tell. Looking forward to more progress. Also how does an underwater creature hunt, would it have legs? and if so maybe a half water half surface picture could be more dynamic.
vrt Great composition very angular and the perspective is very intimidating, im relating to the foreground character well. The shoulders show a good weight with the creatures walking. No crit so far just paint more.
I'm read the wiki page and I think I'll be doing a warbeast with the modern interpretation of the titans in mind.I've chosen to do the titans Asteria - Titan of nocturnal oracles and falling stars. The Titan goddess of prophetic dreams, astrology and necromancy. I'm interpreting the falling starts as meteors/sun. Asteria was known to have changed into a quail to escape the advances of Zeus. She was an alkyonide and after Heracles killed her parents the daughter flung themselves into the sea and transformed to kingfishers. She married the river god Hydaspes, so water is going to play a part in this too. Should all come together nicely if i can think of a good layout and composition.
[EDIT: Here's a complete list of titans]

Hey guys, I'm Dave, and I'm probably still an alcoholic.......Wait, wrong thread.
COW is looking good these days, new faces, old faces, and now you can add my ugly face to the list. Got a call from Emerging that he was gonna be the head honcho this round so I figured what the hell, I'll play.
Congrats to Emerging on 7 stars, and I see a few more of you have earned a bunch as well. Warms my cockles it does. Glad to be back.
I'll be using Selene as my influence (loosely). Her war beast is........The Moon! Turned into its real form. Ready to lay some whoopass on Mt Olympus.
Here's ma sketch. I'll give you guys some crits when we get a little further along and everyone makes some progress, seeing as how it's so early in the round. Best of luck all!
Updates; colour and a hint of texture.
Awesome some far all, gonna be an interesting round!
Also, shout out to Emerging, Lark and Si_Swe, just wanted to know what the rules were for collage, photomanips, mixed medias etc etc? Has it got to be purely 2d digital painting?
Also, gratz to Emerging for 7 stars, well deserved
New attempt...I think I am going to keep with this one...
SCORGE: You never seize to amaze me man, as far as I am I am concerned you demolished this round. Bad ass concept and the artwork is always hardcore on point. Kudos!!!

logistic puppet - Using photo textures to help establish your image is fine by me, but your end product must be mostly your own drawing and/or digital painting. As collage goes, using it the way, say, MatejaPetkovic has been doing in his recent character work is fine with me, but like I said, the end product needs to be your own painting.
logistic puppet: that's a good question. As far as I'm concerned you shouldn't use photos in your work unless you use a texture overlay but only sparingly so that it only adds a little bit to a drawn image.
scorge: welcome back dude! I've caught a look at some of the stuff you've done recently in the dsg. Good stuff! Also I'm pissed at myself for not thinking of the moon as an idea. Great!
Weekend is finally here! yay! ha ha. Hopefully I will be able to squeeze in something decent for this round (last one was a great topic, but I could not make it ): )
Here's a couple ideas I've playing with... my problem is that I can't decide what direction to take. Cats keep popping in my canvas... but I don't know if I want a cat..
(I don't link the images directly to avoid flooding the thread)
Any thoughts? Guess I'll keep sketching for the moment.
lkjhgfdsa titan of trackies...
The word ‘anarchy’ comes from the ancient Greek αναρχία in which αν meant ‘without’ and αρχία meant first a military ‘leader’ and then ‘ruler’. Anarchist society is one ‘without rulers’: a classless, non-hierarchical society.
“You need people like me.
You need people like me so you can point your grubby fingers and say, "That's the bad guy.""
Strapped for time getting ready to skip town but doing best to make some progress here in the wips...would really like to take this to finals...heading from Miami to Orlando at 5am (few hours) to go rip up some walls out there with the spray paint...
I know this isn't an illustration contest but I'd really like to see some dramatic compostion to sell the creature. These things are huge so think God of War and go mental!
PS. It's easy to say this when you're not taking part I know
