    Wip archer

i know it needs a lot of work, but what I need help with right now is the pose. this is just a concept art for a character. her body seems way too unnatural as well as her facial expression. any help would be greatly appreciated..

it might pay to just get a page of printer paper and ruin it with thumbnail sketches. As far as this pose goes, I think it is set too far forward and her leg is drawn up too far from the ground. ( in th time it took her to raise it up that high she would have fallen over) unless she is running, but it doesnt look like she is running.
Moving the back leg so that it is more 'underneath' her body might help.

This might help... even though it is pretty crappy.

With her left leg forward and her running like that, her upper torso would be turned to her left, this would make her look more natural. Check out this photo: http://www.billsbootcamps.com/site/w...le-running.jpg

ide probably put one arm forward and one arm bck, but you probably want her to be holding the bow and arrow, so ide just have her holding it further up so that she doesn't hit it with her thighs or hips.

Hi Jae! I think you might want to take a look at any movies where people have bows as weapons. Barring that, search for a military/war movie where people have to run with weapons. That might give you a good idea. And how far is she planning to run? Why is she running? All of these will help inform the posing. Other than that, I think you just need to go back and do some more sketching to try and work out the drawing like suggested earlier.

Colour is something that's going to confuse the issue right now - work this out in thumbnails, and do a greyscale rough. Once you've got the pose sorted out then you can move onto colour.

What mood where you after an action piece? or a basic full character portrait?

Instead of continually painting an image until it gets "right" you'd probably be best off doing sketches, in a fashion much like Venger was suggesting.

References are your friend, especially for such a specific pose, or poses. People drawing a bow back aren't hard to find plenty of images for.

Select your darkest color and pay attention to where it lands in value. Your darkest shapes are just a little below mid-tone. You could probably stand to use more of the value scale here (again, more or less echoing Venger). So, on a scale from one to ten (one being the lightest, ten the darkest) I think you should slap down a three and an eight or so down on the canvas. You'll see what I mean.

"She took the ice cube trays out of the freezer. What kind of a sick bitch takes the ice cube trays out of the freezer?"
