Seriously SVA is so bad at promoting lol... Thanks for the information. That did help me with deciding. I think I will go to SVA since they also suggested the scholarship... and Florida is too faraway. I don't have question about SVA right now, but I would probably have one in the future Thanks tsusho!

Oh, and I just saw your full version of your comment.
YAY! I finally found person who is in same position XD I'm allied with you!
I totally agree with your statement about quality of student. It is how I do, so I don't have concern about that. And location of SVA really fluttered me, because although school don't have a campus, probably there are more things to do in NYC.
And I'm also Asian..XD so totally agree with diversity.
Plus, I hate hot humid weather so.. SVA earns point for that.

Only thing I'm hesitating is Ringling's job networking, as their CA department seems like they are truly promoting their student...I think. And people told me Ringling is best in Computer animation department, so I feel like I should go to the best department since that is what I want to do. Well, I know it depends on how I do, rather than school, but I believe school does have effect on student's ability, as their reputation doesn't come from nowhere. It has big difference when school totally supports certain department.

I really want to visit both campus, but it is impossible for me. I'm fa-r away (in other country). And plus my visa problem..:/

So, are you also planing to visit Ringling too?
+And do you know wheter I can transfer to another major? Because I'm also interested in illustration.

This is so hard. I am keep flipping the decision.. But hopefully, our decision will be win-win for both of us afterall=]

    @jecc

Somethng I did at the beginning of my college search was make a chart. If I remember the original schools in the running was Ringling, SVA, AAU, RISD, Art Center, Digipen, Calarts, SCAD, CCAD, SAIC, and SFAI.

Next I wrote down the most important things to me in choosing a college; Strength of program of study, Quality of Student Work/Awards, Location Appeal, Extracurricular Opportunities, Overal Cost after Financial Aid&Scholarships, Number of Alumni I admired, Diversity/Percent of International Students, Facilities, and Networking/Recruiter potential.

I then rated a number of importance for each category, for example Diversity was 10 points cause it was the most important to me, Cost was 9, Program of study was 8, Location was 7, Student work/Awards was 6 and so on.

SVA was #1 for diversity so it got 10 points, Student Work/Awards was #3 so it got 4 points, Program of Study was #3 so 6 points. Hopefully this makes sense lolz.

So then you add up all the points for all the schools, and whoever has the most points is the most compatible school for you from what you think is most important. There isn't one perfect school so you just need to decide which is the most compatible and has the strongest pros important to you.

Let me know if the calculating part doesn't make sense lolz. I can probably do a quick one on excel to show you or something.

I'm planning on visiting Ringling in April but I'll only be going if Ringling in the end is cheaper than SVA which I highly doubt ^^;;. So I won't know until I receive my Financial aid Package.

At Ringling, people rarely have problems transferring from CA to Illustration, or any of the other majors really. I know personally know several who switched to illustration after freshman year when they decided animation wasn't really for them or wanted to do more experimental work. It is pretty difficult to transfer into CA or GAD though because of the higher portfolio demands and limited space. Trying to switch to illustration after sophomore year and maintain junior status is pretty difficult though unless your work is really solid, and by that time you would have missed out on some foundational curriculum.

Similar situation at SVA, the foundation years are pretty much the same between the two departments except that CA majors take an intro to computer animation course instead of painting.

I'm having the exactly same problemmm :-(( I thought deciding school would be just happy and easy..

I got into SVA and Ringling too, and both of them seem like excellent schools and don't know which one will be the better choice for me..
Have you decided which school to go yet??
