Earthquake Shakes Japan
And DO NOT CLOSE MY THREAD. I AM ON CLOSE STAND BY TO PROVIDE SUPPORT. I am a Marine in the United States Marine Corps.
88k are reported missing. There will no doubt be a HUGE humanitarian effort to find and save those who are missing. I have not talked to friends there in mainland Japan in a couple hours.
5 miles in is the damage, cars, buses, trains, PEOPLE, are being swept away. This is just as bad as the Indonesian Tsunami a few years ago. Help is needed, and your art is the key.
As information comes in, I will update. Otherwise, Al Jazeera and CNN are the places to check and update this thread.

Ok stark, what the fuck are you talking about?
I am about to become unpopular on the forums by saying the following but it's the truth:
What the hell can artists do about? Draw sad pictures?
Will that rebuild what has been lost? Lives and infrastructure?
Post sad comments about it in the lounge? We already know it's sad, that us a given. In sharing our grievances we are not providing any tangible help, we are merely expressive our grief and fear. Which is fine and should be done, but it doesn't do anything like your post suggest it will.
Send money? Ok that's a good solution and really the only one that could do something, but even that lots of people would argue that it's a band aid and not a solution.
Besides do artists have money?
Feel free to disagree with me by all means, but I just don't understand what you want from us

Pavel, I think he's stationed in Okinawa. He has friends on mainland. He's probably a little emotional being face to face with what's going on.
"Astronomy offers an aesthetic indulgence not duplicated in any other field. This is not an academic or hypothetical attraction and should require no apologies, for the beauty to be found in the skies has been universally appreciated for unrecorded centuries."

I know and I sympathize with that, what I am saying is that we are scared, taken a back and upset about this tragedy, but I just don't think that anyone except maybe the Op can help..
And I dont want to say that I have provided support to the cause by simply stating my
Either way, I do hope that efforts will be applied by the people who are capable of applying them such as Op, but I don't think Ca's artist population can really do anything helpful
