movie trailers and why they are the devil

    (sorry had to rant)

has anyone noticed the not too recent trend of teling an entire movies story within the trailer?

    like the punisher for instance.

the y show that his family gets killed, he survives, hooks up with a ragtag group, builds a cool car, goes teh the Bad guys headquarters and throws the money out teh window, more violence insues etcetc..i mean shit..... i watched one trailer for punisher that was like 5 min long and it was a whole summary of the movie. ugh!...ugh ugh!!

it pisses me off cus its like geared to all these 14 yr old kids with no attention spans, and they dont even care if they know the whole movie/story before they go see it. as long as some shit gets blowed up.

i always hated it wehn a trailer would show you the coolest action/special effects scenes --but this is way worse

    kinda sad imo

i dont like to know everything thats gonna happen when i sit down to a new flick

like the latest kill bill trailer--so shes gotta a daughter...ok...did that really need to be in the trailer.? i dont think it did.

jesus leave some shit out of the trailers people

perhaps your thinking..."well tyler...just dont watch trailers then...."

    yea right.
    (rant over)

I was thinking the same thing while watching the Kill Bill trailer. Why'd they reveal one of the key points in the movie? And I wonder if Tarintino is happy about that.

umm...if i remember from the first kill bill they said it right at the end..
so its not really a supprise

but i totally agree ty,its pretty much a given now that youll see all the best scenes in the trailor, and they give away entire plotlines and twists......pretty lame

If they ever let me make a movie, I'm going to shoot scenes specifically for the trailer that have absolutely nothing to do with the movie. They will span genres and film styles and be completely incoherent. Now that would be awesome.

The best trailer I've seen in a long time was for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Although the content of that movie does not exactly lend itself to a traditional trailer format. And I just realized, the trailer had scenes shot specifically for it... coincidence? Or am I a cinematic genius ?

Ty it simply boils down to one thing, money. In the large scale demographic studies that most feature production companys conduct they usually find it is a safer bet to tell too much of the story to "hook" the audience rather than hope for the underlying mystery of what the movie could really be.

The financial risk is too great for them to not get every person possible into that theatre to make back the enormous investment in the film.

It just comes down to numbers which yes on an artistic level is hard to swallow but the film industry is 90% cash 9% advertising and 1% catering. lol

Kill Bill's trailer ruined the plot because they tell you she has a daughter?????...
that is one of the reasons I'm so hyped up to see the second movie!!!!!, and I've been like that since I saw the end of the first one at the theater!!!, when the last line of the movie is: "Does she know that her daughter is still alive???"

presence-- youre right. the industry is wearing its commercialism on its sleeve. thats why im pissed

i dont think its about "hooking" tho--cus a mystery hooks and leaves you wanting more. when they reveal the entire plot in sequential order...its like saying "heres teh movie" your gonna get this this, this, and this. in this order. and people go.."yea i want to see that..cus I already know whats gonna happen for teh most part..and taht comforts me because im a superficial insecure consumer"..........

    or not.

nim--ill come see your random makes no sense mind bending detective noir porno when its released

JRR-- yea i remember teh castaway trailer where they revealed that he gets rescued. so the whole time your watching the flick you know hes gonna survive...bleh.

am i the only person in the whole world that thought kill bill was a terrible movie?
    its SUCKED.
they were constantly making an effort to curse as much as possible, it wasn't natural. and the resto of the dialogue sucked too. all the scenes were about 10 minutes too long, and i personally thought that the fight scenes were just stupid.
oh, and on top of all that, in the start where the show you what happened to her, people in the theatre were laughing!!!
that part was the only serious part of the fucking movie!!!
i felt cheated. the only thing i truly enjoyed was the animated sequence.
they should release a special dvd with just the animation on it because that was the only thing that was worth a shit.

but of course, i'll be there in the theatre for the second part. oh well.

but i still will never see the 3rd matrix movie. i swear to whatever god will listen, you cant make me. i wont watch it.

The new spiderman trailer is just one big spoiler. I wouldn't advice wathing it if you plan to see the movie anyways.

It seems to me that in these days, we're not suppose to appreciate the art of film so much as 'buy' the movie. I find it funny how now, after everyone figured that super-hero movies do really well, we have twenty nearly identicle super-hero flicks crammed with pointlessly dizzying special effects and each with their own line of merchandising from action figures to nose-hair clippers. I know this concept is nothing new but it sure-as-hell is more prevailent now. It's funny how in all of the making-of documentares most of the producers are saying things like "we knew the studio wanted to do a (so-in-so) film but was still shopping around for a script." Things are being green-lit before the even know what they want or they know if it's even a good idea. Basically they depend on the name-power of a franchise.

Movie trailers nowadays (I feel old using this term) have changed too. They're meant to appeal to a culture with a much shorter attention span as the prospect of seeing something with artistic integrity has been out-down by the desire to see as many cool things crammed into thirty seconds as possible.

This goes with a lot of Hollywood, a very formulaic place, but I dislike the "formula" for trailers that are out... they all start wiht "In a world... In a land... etc. etc." then they cut to some sassy oneliner from the hero, the nu-metal starts up, there are frames of highcontrast, the film's slowed down and sped up in a few seconds.... it just sucks. It's literally like they take an entire movie, toss it into a program, and the trailers are made with a filter. I think other people said similar things, but I thought I'd throw my two cents in.

    Get original, for chrissake's!

ps- and I agree, stop showing the coolest shit in the movie in the trailer ...

Something that sucks nowadays is these featuretes they are releasing BEFORE the movie, then when you see the damn flick you already know whats going to happen and how its going to look like and shit even know how they fucking made it.

What's even fucking worse then the trailers are HBO "Behind the Movie" shows. I flipping by the Big Daddy one and in two minutes flat I was shown every joke in the whole goddamn movie.

The Kill Bill's were masterpieces in my opinion... two completely different and successful movies in their own regard.

    You're not alone.

But my case is worse: I've only seen Matrix in video, the first half of Revolutions and about 20 minutes of the Phantome menace. And found all of them boring as hell. Can anyone better that?

I think bad films can only give bad trailers. I mean, since i saw the league of extraordinary gentlemen trailer, i know that a film with only accion scenes in its trailer will suck.
No story to tell, nothing to catch my attention more than in the effects. So i know what i´ll see....

Formula joke movie trailer a friend memorized and I asked him to tell me so I could copy and paste it. Sorry I just found it so funny, I must post even if no one else laughs. Then again he told me it on teamspeak so...

"In a world where a moron can be king, You must fight to survive, he sold tortillas in a little stand on the corner, this is his story."
"I dont know who this man is but i want him and his tortillas DEAD!"
    "This summer"
    "GET DOWN"
    "Arnold swartzenager Is"
    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    BOOOM

i stoped watching movie trailers long ago (at last for movies i know i want to see)
and i can really recommend that ,sometimes it's not easy (try to avoid any pictures, trailer or commercial in front of a Starwars movie and you know what i mean)

the real sad thing is , if the can put all cool moments and the whole story in one min. it mostly means they only have 1 min. of cool moments and story in the movie

All our time has come Here but now they're gone...

Have you seen the new Godzilla trailer? What is it you ask? It shows the word Godzilla in japanese, and then English, and then it lets out the Godzilla scream. That's it. No story, just pure and unbridled trailer power.
