*Update* January 1 2014
I'm a 22-year-old film professional hoping to break into visual development. I'm largely self-taught and trying to round out my basic skills and build a portfolio.
I have a background in film and art history and love Miyazaki.

Hi all! I'm super new to this site but excited for the community.
I'm a 19-year-old art and film student and really looking to improve and to find more specifically what inspires and motivates me as an artist.
I hope you enjoy!

These are some photoshop sketches/speedworks from the last week or so, and a WIP.
Sketch for the evening of 3/1. Trying to get comfortable with this character...her colors and form...and the airbrush tool in photoshop.
It's been awhile. Finals and spring break. Getting back into the flow though!
This one was mostly a rendering and color practice. The face shape and flow are still a little off, but I'm overall happy with it.

Thanks for dropping by my sb!
If you're having trouble with heads and faces don't be afraid to do some studies. Andrew Loomis is great resource and all his book are free online. Keep up the drawing!
Good start for your sketchbook ! I really like your choice of colors in the last picture. As ~Twig says, don't hesitate to do some studies if you feel the need.
Looking forward to seeing more.
Thanks for the suggestions to look at Loomis and studies, as well as for taking the time to look and comment. I've been doing some sketching, but hopefully will have time to sit down and do some serious studies in the coming week.
For now, here are some storyboards I'm working on for a student film. This is once scene of a 17-scene piece.
The last, colored image is a WIP for a piece inspired by the Killer's "Spaceman." I'm more interested in color and impression of kind of the magical, whimsical, childhood fantasy aspect of space.
Long time no see!
I've been sorting some things out in my life and realizing I was right where I ought to be : drawing and dreaming.
Working on some studies to get back into things, and to expand my repertoire. I was feeling boxed in with the people and the need for human figure.
Some stuff from this year--trying to get into a better drawing habit. Making some progress with faces and anatomy but would like to make more. Also need to do more environment studies, as well as texture--especially textile.
Thanks for looking!
Some early character sketches based on precolumbian artifacts. Hoping to keep with some of these designs through some more iterations and ultimately a colored piece or two.
I was really trying to focus on the interaction of shape and line while also capturing the "spirit" of the source culture.
I turned a few of the previous sketches into some character studies. I was really trying to keep the lines and tone of my source material (precolumbian statues) but give the characters life of their own.
I also have started doing some environment studies. The graveyard is still a work in progress.
That design on the precolumbian girl is really solid, and the envirnments are cool. Lots of progress here! Keep going!
Shoulder to the wheel, my friend!
My sketchbook - Harsh critique always welcome!
Thanks for the encouragement.
Here's some studies from today.
I did the candle from life. I am very happy with the colors and the flame, glass reflecting the flame, and the wax portion of the candle.
I also did some figure study from photo reference. Really happy with the weight of the stomach on both of these.
It's been awhile! I have been very busy (and happy with) LevelUp! but now that I am warmed up again, going to try to be better about posting (and making) my own stuff. Here's some highlights from February in March.
Nice studies man! Keep up the good work!
