Something i`m working on.
Something i`m working on.
And this is how it ended looking up like.
Another work in progress. Never know how to chose my colors, this will probably change a lot.
I have something about values and tones in my sketchbook (page 2) from Andrew Loomis, that might help you a little.
About the choice of colours:
To make a picture look good and not make something stick out, colour should be used multiple times on a picture. It doesnt even need to be the exact same colour, reduce the saturation, make it brighter or whatever, just dont make one piece bright green if theres nothing else even close to green.
It can also help when you choose your colour palette beforehand.
Lets say 4 colours that you want to use and you will stick with these (and variations of them).
If you want to go further, mixing colours would be a good way.
The demon up there looks basically good by since the skin is one and the sme colour all over, it feels weird or kinda boring.
Check out old masters paintings and you will see, that there are really fluctuating colours in a field you would say it's basically just one colour.
I hope this helps a bit.
Thanks a lot for the useful advice shockowaffel, you are right, that demon looks boring indeed, i`ll try to limit my palette by choosing some colors beforehand for my next painting and see if i can come up with something decent looking. For now this is how the last one ended up looking, and also a new one.
I really love the last one. So dreamy.![]()

Thanks a lot Warforce17, glad you liked it.
Here are some hands mainly i`ll be tackling feet now probably.
Some more, sorry for the crappy photoshop collage.
Some blizzardish stuff, a tauren and a warden wip.
Just some update on the warden.
Some warm ups and pencil studies. I really don`t know what to do to make the pencils look digitally a bit like they actually do in reality, they look like crap when i scan them, any piece of advice?
your awesomeness....gave me a nosebleed....![]()

Thanks a lot for the kind words Magical-Shit, kind of an unexpected reaction though. Well, long time no update, here are some studies i've been working on, some concepts, some semi finished pieces and some pencil studies, mainly severed limbs and floating torsos. Would really appreciate any kind of feedback.
hey man! the warden is really looking good! lookin' forward to seeing the finished product. also nice anatomy studies but what i really like is the red demon armor!(or is it a dragon armor?) haha not really sure.![]()
Hi, what did you use for those studies? Models or photoreferences? O_o
really nice line works
Hey, been dead for a while, trying to rise from the dead. Here are some sucky thingies.
Your studies are so clean, haha. Not to mention amazingI really love your light and color pieces, I'm envious of your progress with tone. Everything here is really looking great.
Keep up the good work!
Hey man really nice stuff you have improved hella fast, you absolutely killed that mirror fantasy piece man should be pleased with that. For your sketches though try to not use such dark lines for your outline and try practicing some gesture drawing to try and get away from smaller more angular lines your sketches will look much more dynamic if you can incorporate a gestural feel. Carry on man doing great![]()
O__O i love your hand sketches!
Hey man, really enjoying your sketchbook. All the hard work you're putting in is obviously paying off. Love the hand studies on the first page. Not sure what it is, but small touches with their chunkyness and positions is really nice. Keep up the good work, looking forward to the rest!
Do swing by and drop off some crits! ---Sketchbook
Hey! Trying to get into the habit of doing studies everyday, it's tough. I realized i hadn't posted the finished frog thing i painted a while ago, so here it is, along with some quick figure thingies and an apple. I originally intended to paint that thing whole, but it was really challenging for me, couldn't look at it all that much without eating it, so i ate it, and then tried to paint it, which probed to be a problem since it started changing too fast, and i'm kind of a slow painter, any way, here it is.
@Art Minded : Thanks a lot for the kind words man, i still need to push those values.
@TFsean : Thanks a lot man! And you are definitely right, i'm gonna try to get into the habit of doing some gestures everyday too. And i'll try to avoid those dark lines, gonna be tough though, i have kind of an iron grip. Thanks a lot for the feedback.
@LadyAtuna: Thanks a lot lady!
@Springheeled: Thanks a lot for the encouraging words, i'm really glad you like it so far.
Hey! some more crappy stuff.
Fantastic progress man. The last frog you did is absolutely awesome. I would advise you to explore the medium a bit more and not approach digital painting in the same way each time. Also, try to mess up your pieces a little bit. They are all pretty clean, and if you loosened up a bit I'm sure yo would be pleasantly surprised with some new insights.
Have to agree nice progress, your hard work is definitely paying off. Keep it up
Id suggest studying Asaro heads (do a google search to find them) to learn the planes of the face, it will really help you with your portraiture.
Trying to make sense with color, and specially trying to get half-decent skintones. Any advice on what kind of studies to do would be greatly appreciated! These are just some quick studies from pictures, less than an hour each, i'd say. I'll try to do more of those everyday.
@jedininjaman: Thanks a lot for the kind words! I could definitely use some loosening up, but it's somehow hard for me. I'll try though, thanks for the advice!
@Scriar: Thanks for the kind words! And thanks a lot for the advice on Asaro, i've done a bunch of pencil studies on the heads using different lightning, i'd upload some but my scanner is not cooperating. Great advice, thanks!
good stuff! Your strokes are really juicy! Odd word, but that's the best I can describe them. Keep on rockin!
Some more stuff, really messy, sorry about that.
@Zephyrion: Thanks a lot!
Some more stuff. 30 secs, 1 minute gestures, and some longer poses. A little color study too.
Very nice book man. Love the studies and the frog paint. Also The kid looking at himself in a mirror with the pans and seeing himself as a knight. I don't know exactly Y but that is definitely my favorite. Keep them coming dude.
