Hi, everyone. First time posting here, kind of nervous!
Anyway, I'm currently in my senior year of high school and this term for our making task we were able to choose any theme, meaning and medium we wanted. The theme I made up is "the humanity of the inhuman". Artwork is of a little girl and a somewhat broken military robot amongst derelict city ruins.
I was just wondering if anyone could give me any critiques on how it's going so far/suggestions to improve it before I start tightening it up.
I would certanly add more light areas in the focal area, also, maybe break the paralel lines of the composition (like paralel rocks in the foreground)
Also, try to shy away from having HUGE black spaces. It created negative, wasted space and doesn't help your composition. It doesn't have to be much and you don't want to try anything away from the central focus, but pure black space is boring and right now you have a TON of it.
Also (and this just might be me) but if you haven't told me they were supposed to be in a "derelict city" I would have thought they were in a cave. You have a lot of naturally organic shapes and curves that convey either rocks or trees in a jungle, but a city? No way. If you want to achieve that I would suggest checking out some reference pics of bombed out cities or something to start identifying what kind of shapes will convey your meaning.
Overall I like the concept though, can't wait to see it come along!
P.S. Welcome to CA! It takes a hard skin sometimes but the guidance is priceless.
