So my New Year's resolution was to begin a new sketchbook, and update it each and every day. Today is February 14th, and I still have not done it...With that said, it's time to get my butt motivated and start getting involved with the CA community.
I've been around here for a while, browsing and checking out all of the insane artwork. I'll try to update this as frequently as possible, but we all know how work and life like to get in the way of good intentions...
Anyway, here's some work! Pretty wide mix of stuff I've done over the past few years. Comments, criticisms, and just about anything else are completely welcome and encouraged!

Well, it's that time of the year again. Seeing as how my 2011 resolution didn't pan out, I should probably give it another try. However, this time I've been preparing for a couple months now. Last year I attended the TAD Explore workshop and found the Feng Zhu Design Cinema videos, and I'm happy to say that these experiences have rekindled my interest concept art, and have really opened my eyes. 2012 will be the year that I begin to really solidify my foundations and become a better artist overall.
I have been gathering information on perspective, production drawing, value, and composition, and will be doing rigorous studies each week using a progressive learning method.
Also, I plan on devoting some time for sketchbook work, basic idea development, and learning more about the world.
To keep myself accountable I will post my progress as I'm able.

As promised (in my post that is awaiting approval), here are some perspective studies:
Perspective studies done freehand with a Pilot G-Tec-C4, using the book Sketching: The Basics by Koos Eissen & Roselien Steur.
To increase my understanding of one and two point perspective, and to increase my confidence in mark making.
Unfortunately, I wasn't as productive this week as I had hoped. However, here are several notable things I learned:
- Eye level is always the same as the horizon line
- Emphasis should be placed upon the viewpoint placement in order to achieve an informational drawing
- In two point perspective, the distance between vanishing points should be about five times the image width to avoid perspective distortion
- Drawing straight freehand lines is tough - Practice!
I also did a fair amount of sketchbook drawing, but I wouldn't dare show those yet!

Not much progress this week as I've been busy with some unexpected portfolio stuff. Hopefully this coming week things will settle down so I can get a few hours in.
Next week I probably won't have much to show either as I have a business trip out in San Fran. It's always something!
What are conceptulising in the 7th image? some of them look like dark pokeballs
