@Elz, thanks - yeah, the whole point of that hour long pose was (at the end of a heads, hands and feet class) to exercise all we had learned for the whole quarter. I don't know if I could pull it off again.
UPDATE (this one is itty-bitty because I haven't scanned my newer stuff yet - tomorrow or the day after expect larger updates.
And some concept work I'm doing:
@Geth, thanks, and I agree - I do go long. I did well with that at a figure drawing session last night, but it'll take me a couple of days to upload it because I want to upload my work in an order than shows clear progression.
These are from several different models and sessions:
(5 Minute Poses)
^mix of 5 and 10 minute poses
(10 Minute Poses)
(15 Minute Poses)
(20 Minute Poses)
I went to the San Francisco Bay Area Game Developer's Meetup lastnight - it's all professionals. Lots of fun talking to people. Hopefully I'll be a bit better prepared next time...
To the Sketches! These were from last week. I'm almost up to date...
Doing a larger update because I might not be able to update for a week or two. :X
A beach in Monterey/Santa Cruz, from life - brush pen.
Roses - watercolor pencil (done as an exercise and a gift for my mom).
Trying to draw a face a day - so far failing, but having fun on the days when I manage it.
Back from Albuquerque, and messing around with color for the first time in a while - planning on messing with it some more.
(the ball in the upper right color is white. The rest are red, and one of them is shiny. I was experimenting with the ambient light and the shadow more than anything else)

Now the Black& White
And some stonework I liked:
Don't know when I'll get a chance to finish this, but it's actually part of a two-piece thing....

Thanks for the comment, Jamie. Working on it.
Some refinements on the peach-bunny based on feedback from Popoko -
Need to get back to attending figure drawing sessions.
Not much figure drawing, but doing simple exercises from ctrl+paint. None uploaded.
Finished the rabbit-peach!
(Sadly, Bite 3 [#9] didn't make it into the final cut. It shall always remain one of my favorites, though. >=D )
And did more work on the Spider/Mushroom:

I picked up a part time job as an art instructor, and possibly a contract position (other than Popoko) doing game art. Yays!
Your strong dedication and hard work is paying off slowly.
I hope that you will achieve your goals form your first post,
just work hard, enjoy it and update regularly.
I really like the diversity of your studies and style, keep em coming The figure studies look really good!
Thanks Serra and Reay! Reay, the life drawing has been a good way of tracking my abilities. First it was just about being able to get the basic shapes, and now it's basic shapes+rendering. Though I've been backsliding because I've been busy - but since it's been with art stuff, I don't feel too bad.
Well, I completed my internship at a startup mobile game company in Mountain View, CA - I actually did all of the art for the game Word Train (from Rocket Lobster)
Here are some screenshots:
And a closer look at some 2D I did for it:
I had a fantastic internship - learned oodles, networked, made some awesome friends... I still attend the weekly game nights at the studio. =) I'm currently updating my websites and my resume... and my resume is awesome. Visually so. I'll be uploading it here when I finish it tomorrow.
I've learned a lot about Illustrator, and am looking to learn Flash better (I took a class in it back when it was still Macromedia), and hunting down a job. In the meantime, I have a few pieces that I started for the 30 days, 30 characters project. I had to shelve it so that I can focus on doing more art for my portfolio (focussing on 2D and UI), but I fully intend to finish the rest:
Sadly, I haven't had much of a chance to do a lot of life drawing, but starting tomorrow I'll be doing at least half-an-hour a day (via a website like http://lovecastle.org/draw/ if need be.
I landed a freelance position doing creature designs for an iOS game company down in L.A. (via the magical internet). Here are the first 5 of the 30 monsters I've been contracted to do.
My work process is: sketches -> working out the value relationships in greyscale -> add colors using multiply, color, soft light and color dodge layers. I don't show any of the greyscale art in the image below, but it's a very important step for me in my workflow. It was probably all those life-drawing classes working in charcoal...
You’re doing some great work here! I really like your style!
Those body sketches are very good! I’m struggling with mine
I like the variety of the stuff you’re doing. The ‘face expression’ and the ‘rabbit-peach’ are interesting and inspire me. And I love the monsters in the last post!
Well done on the mobile game work! It looks professional. Congrats!
Your hard “practice practice practice” shows! Keep up the good work!
