Help!! I want to be a good concept artist

    Hi guys,

I wanna be a concept artist and i want to be good at that. I am working hard to improve my skills but right now I need some direction so that I can see what I am lacking... Its the first time I am making a sketchbook on CA...didn't have the balls to put it up before (trust me)

So here's my first post ...

All these images were my attempt to create environments XD

    will keep posting

Don't you want to be a "drop dead amazing blow your face off" concept artist? If you're gonna do it, COMMIT!

I can tell by your few pieces thus far that you have a nice, whimsical view of the world. I can believe that there is a culture behind those images.

I'm not very good at digital stuff, so I can't crit you with oodles of confidence, but I would suggest trying to paint textures without using a texture brush.

Since it's early in your sb and we haven't seen any of what you're studying, I'll simply say, post more!

I like the first and 3rd..try out some speed paints and quick thumbs to get quick ideas, or even just make random scribbles and see where your mind takes the interpretation of those scribbles (if that makes sense)

    and post some more!

    ...the imperfections make it interesting...

I like the difference of the warms and cools and the depth you have given the room. Overall I am missing the cast shadows from main lights, the light source is pretty sharp so the shadows would need to be too. there will also be multiple overlapping shadows from the different lights. You can kinda fake it into one softer area shadow, but you need something, also some contact shadows to show where things touch. I see you do have shadows for the two FG workmen, i get that you are trying to have their shadows come fro the bounce light from the statue, but the light source on the ground to the right of them is much brighter so you would expect there shadows to come from the light that make the ground that bright.

Hope this helps, the idea is really cool, the values are good, just needs a little more rendering

The last piece in your first post is excellent, and your latest work is looking rather good as well. Want to see more designs!
