Please go to the last page to see the new stuff!
Hello there =)
My name is Julia and I'm 22 years old. I really want to improve my skills and I hope this sketchbook will help me.
Drawing and painting were always a part of my life and it would be great if I can learn enough to do professional stuff.

Good thing to show some sketches, eh?
The first ones are from life.
I need to practice more anatomy!
photo study of my ocarina
some pencil fun
Hey Julia! Welcome (I just did my first post today too!)
your stuff looks really great. I especially like your pencil sketches.
The anatomy sketches have some really nice pencil work. The lines are nice and confident, and I dig the very light rendering you've put on them. Your portrait sketches are great too.
Your first painting, in my opinion could use a little more contrast. It feels a little flat to me, but the subject material is super cool. I want to know more about it, thats for sure.
your second painting looks great to me. The wires could use a little more love, but the lighting and reflections on the ocarina itself looks super solid to me.
with your concepts, especially the human one, they don't seem as confident as your sketches, and the faces look a little more generic and plain. They don't look as fully realized as characters as the people in your portraits. You definitely have some fantastic soft rendering happening though.
keep up the awesome work
Can't wait to see more from you!
Good start to your thread so far. Props on having an ocarina handy to do a painting of. The holes seem like outies instead of innies though, I'm thinking there's a lighting issue there.
You can never see too many studies, look forward to many more posts
max_dunbar:thank you very much for all your useful words! I think, they will help me in future
and there's something like a cool story behind the first painting I've posted (or least, some people think so). I started without an idea, just some papers full of doodles and I found a shape there, that just looks cool. Something like a side-face with an helmet. Here you can see it:
I just started to work with that. But I have big problems to paint non-natural forms and materials. Need to do some practices on that. If I have the time to do so, I will go on working on the painting
Rhubix: Ocarinas are nice instruments to make music and to paint It's good to have one. But you're right about the holes. Well, I should go on making such studies
I give it a try now, to paint the ocarina from life. Contrary to the flash of the camera that I have on the photo last time, the light in my room seems to be very bad and dark.
Some anatomy sketches
Yeah, update again=) I will try to make them daily, even if I have to show some crappy things. But the sketchbook would not show the reality if I only show my best things. So here we go again.
photostudy! next time I will try to do it from life
Small update, only crappy things, I had not much time today
I tried to paint a tangerine on my Nintendo DS. The colors do not look nice on a computer screen
Some quick photo referenced sketches
pose maniacs, 60 seconds

Silwynar: woah, you're from Trier? I feel like the world is very small XD
Well, I'm not the big Zeldafan, but I like playing the games and the songs. It's really a version of the ocarina of time I've painted there. The only instrument I've got.
Thanks for comment! I give my best to do some studies every day. Would be awesome to be great in no time...
Nice studies and yay zelda lol, I really liked the creatures but be careful tho some of your work feels flat; try some different perspectives to get you thinking in 3d space for figures.
Keep it up
