Artist Paints Herself Having Sex With All US Presidents

Didn't find a thread on this here, so apologies if it's been posted. I'm always on the lookout for the next weirdest thing, especially if it involves breaking sexual and racial tensions.

"A long-term study of power. In Join Or Die, I paint myself having sex with the U.S. Presidents in chronological order."

Yeah it's pretty old news actually. And, in my opinion, they're not very good paintings.

Er, people are still committing racial crimes, including mass genocide in numerous places around the globe today. Women's rights are in shambles in most places around the world.

It's an amusing idea, that's about it. I like provocative art and 'a study of power' sounds good but have to question what is supposed to be empowering about painting yourself sucking Abraham Lincoln's dick.

    -She's a non-white female,
-Who's somewhat promiscuous (but that's okay,)
-Getting fucked over by a whole bunch of old dead white guys, (That's bad)
-Which will be invalidated once she gets to Obama, in which case she will be getting fucked by old live black guys, hence finally breaking racial and sexual tensions.

    BAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA.
Derp. My bad, I get it now.

EDIT: Besides, I figure it would be more provocative if the 44 presidents were in a line waiting to fuck her one by one. That would dis-empower the woman. But instead, she's portrayed as seducing them, which is EM-powering. Somehow.
Though I agree with your point, I don't really see the difference. It's just a lot of fucking.

DOUBLE EDIT: OKAY, I'm sorry, I'll be good now. I promise.

You have some good points but I actually saw it as more of statement about sex and freedom of speech in general. Personally I don't find such things sexist - to me sexism is about not getting payed as much as other people for being a woman, or not being free to choose who you have sex with, or being forced to marry at age 12 or something.

I don't find women being potrayed as sexual beings, who enjoy being sexual and revel in it as wrong at all. That attitude of women being somehow above sex is so pinched. Or it's just the fantasy of a rape fetishist....

In the paintings she looks like she's enjoying herself....is that the same as you said "getting fucked over by a bunch of white guys...(That's bad)"

WOMEN LIKE TO HAVE SEX, IT FEELS REALLY GOOD. THAT'S GOOD.

I saw it as a statement about how some idiots vote using their sex drives as guiding force. Also upon examining the scenarios, and knowing my presidents pretty well, I noted Abraham Lincoln not being too enthused, and the only guy getting a blowjob. Which pretty much sums up his position in history - reluctantly allowing slaves to be let go and being worshipped for the rest of American history inanely...(Grant was amusing btw)

Besides, I figure it would be more provocative if the 44 presidents were in a line waiting to fuck her one by one. That would dis-empower the woman.
No, it would not....again you're assuming she's not going to enjoy that....a women having sex does not disempower them. A woman being depicted as having sex (and being glorified for it instead of arrested) does not disempower them. There are several mythological figures in history who reflect humankind's general consensus on this matter: one was Inanna, depicted on the Burney Plaque. She was a "kingmaker" if you slept with her you were a king, she was very horny in Sumerian stories and is arguably the most important Sumerian goddess, and always got what she wanted. Another example is Parvati, the consort of Siva, who by catching the burning siva lingam in her vagina, saves the entire world.

I kind of saw it as the woman was trying to express her gender and race was being wh0re'd to the rich powerful white man, because the poor guy in that demographic is copping the most flack for these sorts of issues. I guess the mention of sex and race kind of embedded that in my mind. Thank (insert pioneering individual here) that that wasn't the case.

Its a "statement" about how an ambitious artist who knows she can't make it on talent alone will find some cheap and effective provocation by which to garner attention for her junky work.

It is also a statement about how the ideological drones who respond so predictably to such signals are exactly the trained parakeets they seem to be.

Political programming is just so sad, boring and pathetic. But damn, it makes a good market for selling ready-made political kitsch.

Oddly enough, women who emphasize sex in the workplace get fewer promotions and raises than women who don't. So not being paid as much and being associated with sex are not totally separate things.

I think the same "statement" could be made without presidents. Or even without sex. Most importantly, without her. It's provocative but in a completely self-insistent way. It's like Obama giving a State of the Union address only to say that he had a good breakfast. I understand that if you have something big to say then you need to say it in a big way. But this is saying very little or nothing in a meh way.

Is it a statement? Is it shocking? What does it mean that all the naysayers find it easy to assume it is some kind of statement?

Must it be that artistry must be either deep and meaningful or else it is some kind of kitsch provocateur drivel? How ironic is it that these objections come from a community with member that make money illustrating dragons, spaceships, zombies, and cowboys?

Yes. (It says the post is too short so I had to add this to make it kosher.)

When you make a work of art, you express something. When you include presidents, sex, and yourself, the references concatenate and become specified. Especially as the set of elements, [presidents, sex, and the artist herself] have a meaning in the wider cultural milieu. And it is in this wider cultural milieu, which includes this stupid thread, that, according to pomo theory, YAWN! reaction to the work settles its meaning. Thereby implicating you and I as participants in the creation of the work. Which pisses me off, because I hate doing crappy work.

EVERY SUBJECT IS A GENRE. EVERY GENRE IS VALID. NO GENRE IS GOOD OR BAD IN AND OF ITSELF.

All art is only as good as the art the artist makes of it.

Right, because of sexism basically - if a woman is not a virgin, she's a wh0re, and whores can't be promoted...if a woman is not a wh0re she's unattainable and overlooked anyways....this stuff goes all the way back to the Roman Empire and its machinery of *Empire*

It's a rat trap within this rat trap of a planet
