Here is a piece I've been working on for a few days. The WIP area was helpful in moving this piece forward.
I think you can work on some perspectives to pull the elements in order. Also cut down on the rim light because it makes objects flat when they are in the wrong places. You should always think of the scene in 3D if realism is what you are trying to get at. Once you can see the scene in 3D you can add in the lights in much more accurate positions.

mountains of madness are pretty clutch, and I know I need more practice with enviros; haven't actually done too many yet.
I assume you're talking about the 2nd scene more, because it is quite flat in its execution I know.
