    Aron's Sketchbook

Hey all! I wanted to start a sketchbook thread to show off some of the random stuff I draw. Some is traditional, some is digital.

    Color Pencil on Brown Paper

Here's a digital space pug painting, and a sketch based from a photo of a woman.

Also--One of a few vintage style pinups for an art show. Colored pencil on brown "bogus" sketchpad.

Some sketches from over the holiday. Had to photograph these as the book won't fit my scanner. I used either a blue Col-Erase or a Blackwing for these.

hey, really like the characters. keep it up. i especially like the pin-up. :-p

be careful with the hand and arm placement. i've noticed that you've repeated the same hand gesture twice. try to loosen up a little and try different hand placement.

    Thanks!

And here's one from not too long ago-- Penny Welsh. I recorded a video of the digital drawing from start to finish, and posted it on Vimeo. You can see it here: http://vimeo.com/15523997 I had to speed it up so it wouldn't take forever to watch, but it's kinda cool to see it get drawn. It was one of the last things I drew on my computer before I lost everything to a major crash. I got most of it back, but lost many of my favorite photoshop brushes and such.

I like the sketches where it seems you was carefree and quick and let yourself to be artistically messy... For example, the smiling girl in #5 is so lively, she almost jumps out of the screen

    NEVER YOU FEAR!

    'Cause HOLLYWOOD'S here!

I've always loved the character Hollywood Montrose from the 1980's film "Mannequin". If you've seen the film, you know who I'm talking about. If not-- give the movie a chance

Hollywood was so over the top, it would be hard for me to not like him. His sunglasses are his trademark accessory. He has a heart of gold.

    Sketches

I found a 50 year old Sheaffer's Pen in a bunch of junk with a "free" sign on it. I cleaned it out and put a rotoring ink cartridge into it, and it works like a charm!

hey howdy hey, cute animated style you've got! Your work seems a bit rushed though, while it gives a good sense of energy, sometimes things fall out of place a bit, but it's nothing major. I'd like to see some stuff with a bit more love and time put into it.

I also dig your colored pencils on the brown recycled paper, have you every gotten into markers at all? they can look great on brown paper as well.

Anyway, good stuff, keep it up!

Hi! Thank you very much! I usually work in pencil and then scan for photoshop color, but I've been having a lot of fun with this cheap brown paper lately. I want to get back to working purely digital but Im thinking about doing some more watercolors too.

Hi! Thanks! I'll be drawing a lot more and posting what I can get scanned I'm trying to focus on different varieties of faces right now and I'm excited to see how I can improve myself.

Thanks! I do tend to spend most my time doing more of the quick sketchwork and seeing what I pull from there that can make it into more of a finished piece. I've found that I sometimes discover new characters this way, and pick ones I develop a little more.

I'd like to get into markers but right now the ones I enjoy-- the copics, are far out of my price range. I've tried prismacolor and I've found I'm more comfortable with a brush tip than a chisel tip. I have a problem getting softer edges and gradients I like. I did do the mouse girl with a combination of some marker, color pencil and white pen-touch on the brown. Her hair came out quite nice.

I shall definitely focus on some more extended-focus pieces where I put time into them. Thank you!
