Thread: Spiked's Sketchbook
January 22nd, 2011 #1
Hello and thanks for taking the time to look at my little sketchbook thread.
I'm a uni student from the North of England who desperately wants to be an illustrator. God knows why.
I've been lurking round the forums on here a while now reading stuff and admiring everyone's art and decided that sooner or later I had to join in. So now, I am doing.
I thought I'd post a few of my latest finished pictures first:

...And now I thought I'd post a WIP of what I'm currently working on. Another airship painting (I love airships!) I'm still wondering what to do on the valley walls for detail and whether to change the forest to be more autumnal and warmer looking.

Just an update to show how I've progressed in my current painting.
The sketch was to give me a clearer idea of the composition, although you can see I haven't been very loyal to it. I did start with the airship facing that way but I've been flipping the image horizontally every so often to spot mistakes easier.
I also decided to go all out on the colour scheme and boost the colours massively. I like the warmer colour scheme it has at the moment but I'm not sure it suits the really cold high altitude environment the airship is travelling in and whether it detracts from the realism of the scene.
Also. I hate those trees at the bottom. Need to change them.

Please excuse me for reviving such an old thread here, but recently I've started doing concept art for a final year uni project and thought it would be useful and insightful to get any feedback I could.
The art I've been producing is supposed to be for a horror themed game where you enter peoples nightmares to save them from the demons that have taken residence there. At the moment I've got a long way to go and a lot to do, I aim to upload a few more images in the next couple of days
c&c appreciated, thanks!
