i am so pumped and inspired by your progress and practice-load. holy damn.
your construction and sense of form is getting really damn good. youre going to be amazing at figure. youre so precise.
its great to see you mix it up with the 3d and rendering stuff, really creative experimentation. it looks like your mind is starting to expand its power, with the detail and intricacy in some of the stuff youre starting to do.
and great to see you starting to get into colour! this one is real nice http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...70#post3736070

anyway long time no see pal, hope to catch you around : )

You should take the knowledge you've got already and try for some creative pieces. Put it towards something! Experiment! The psychedelic stuff is cool, but try for something bigger in scope, incorporating full figures, etc. You learn what your weaknesses are that way. Plus, it's really fun.

The yellow twisted dust of the moon has been scattered once more upon you.
The carpet that you are standing on is blessed, and the wind that touches you
is whispering ‘caressed’. I know that your intentions are good and that you are
a modern knight on his everyday daily raid. Small tweaked potato, your
improvements are sharp as a newly bought stiletto. The madly looking
ape is fantastic, I like the look in his eyes, he can be nice and wild both
at the same time. When he removes his red visor, he became drastically
kind. I would like to see you do more exciting moves as you slash
directly through the dried up corn field. The expectations
of your fans is rising high now, they are wanting something
big and fascinating, right now. I truly believe that you
will not disappoint anyone, cause you never did before.

That’s what I’m talking about, keep hammering out those studies until the
cucumber go all shrink and green, your unpredictability is giving us a touch
of uncertainty. You got our attention all around, the pool is full now, the sharks
are in, I have a great intuition that you will get stronger for Christmas time
and swing the hammer at strongest. Swimming around is not an easy business
but you managed to do it in a magnificent fashion. The crowd wants to see,
beside your regular studies, some big breasts and hairy peaches, big
time deliver quick the hot stuff. Till then take care, and we
will catch up down on the south side of the sunny beach.

Nice work on all your construction. That's what it takes is that dedication, man. Keep going with that. You're surely improving in it.

All the pages are starting to look the same. Too many studies! I think you are tunneling. Take a step back to think about what you want to be and what will get you there. I say do more imagination work. I saw some of your imagination work and I thought it was really awesome. Sad to see so few. More idea expression please! Everybody can do studies but it's the imagination that will set you apart. Keep a good balance of variety. I just hope to be helpful because you are killing me with all these absolutely INCREDIBLE studies but no invention ! We want to see who you are and your personality.

Oh ya this sketchbook has inspired me early on to be patient. It just shows how great you can become if you be patient. Something a lot of us struggle with. Keep it up man !

gotta agree on both sentiments. the dedication and construction work is inspiring, you're becoming amazing, and i cant wait to see where it goes.
but definitely mix it up: you should totally get into painting, into values, colours, imagination. you dont need to wait to get better at what youre doing in order to start those other things, on the contrary, starting those will help with what youre doing now and vice versa. even if its just 30mins colour a day

    LtPlissken: Thank you Sir!
p sage: Hella alot dedication, but it's worth it, thanks Sage!
Kathleen Hang, aks9: Both of you are right, i will focus more from now on painting, value, imagination. I had big reason why i did so money studies and continuosly, repetition makes me feel more confortable with this stuff which makes the process enjoyable and it all stick into my brain faster and stronger.. Drawing from mind is really not easy and it requires proper knowledge gained through repetition, errors, study. Above all, i wanted to come to stage where i feel enought confortable with drawing, so i can move on to next stages which will carry on from now.

Thanks Kathleen, im glad i've inspired you

holy s so much practice! makes me crave to do more studies myself.
check out this video on muddy values by feng, it applies to your teddy when you add the white lights on the stones:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYB6Ztgwd3M
its called wacom basics but it deals specifically with muddy values. try taking that teddy and just smoothing and shading everything out over 30 or 60 mins, you'll see what i mean
great work on that pic btw. i hear what you say about imagination being tough and requiring lots of knowledge. you also gotta realise that much of the knowledge comes from experimenting and just diving into th deep end of stuff you dont know how to do. in a sense, you cant know what it is exactly you need to practice until you try to make an imagination piece, and you'll see where the specific limitations are. thats how it is for me anyway.
and yeh happy holidays to you too man : )i wont be relaxing or anything until the 25th cos of this job i have to do now, and im behind on it already :X

aks9: Interesting, many times i found this thingo with brush annoying, but it has one usefulness, if you dont know exactly the correct value, you can use pushing from light to hard until you hit the correct value judged by the eye. Also, the rocks with muddy white is just indication for me where the light hits or should be, if my attention would go to the rocks i would render them with colorpick+brush to create smooth transition with very low pressure like with pencil. Maybe would be better way to put from the start values without pressure and then do the rendering stuff. I like the technique and will try and also the 30-60 When doing imagination i count mainly on the construction, form, perspective, foreshortening, proportions. I had problematic to work with these fundamentals at once because i had't enought training knowledge of these fundamental tools. I'm more confortable with them by now, lets see if i can be more creative. Hell, i have to work also while holidays, so none for me either *__* thanks Andrew!

    what's the secret project?

Just as you said, making finished full illustrations for this year is a very good goal,
you should follow that path, I am here to support. Studies are studies, but there
is a need to do something finished, just like a vampire needs blood, you need
some finished pieces now. Be it traditional or digital. Try to spend as much time
on them as you can. Test your current skill level and potential. A fully rendered
pencil or digital piece. I am looking forward to see that one. Anyway, it’s Saturday
now, we should have some party and fun time with our friends. Cheers.

I can only second LtPlissken, a more finished rendering of some sort would really be a nice change to see

hey buddy, long time no see. Great progress since my last visit I must say. When you do the studies and doodles I'd suggest you to always keep the page layout and design in mind. Don't look at the blank sheet of paper as it is never ending space where you can throw out anything anywhere. It will help you organize and communicate the ideas and studies. Keep well!

Wow man! You've come really far. Your understanding of form and anatomy came along really nicely.
I'd highly recommend giving yourself an illustration topic and doing a big finished painting / drawing. I think it's really important to do that, to tie everything you've learned together.

Good studies! I recommend doing a lot more action poses and new angles, less of the frontals.
