    Tacomeat's Sketchbook

Hello everyone, my name is Jamie. I do have an associate degree in graphic arts and have plans to continue my education at a art college somewhere. I Originally planned on being a graphic designer; now I'm leaning more towards Illustration. I've been putting my art on the back burner for the past few years and I think its time to polish my skills some more. Here I go!

WHAT IS THIS travesty. I fail to see why no-one has commented here after your dry patch....i guess ill be proud to be the first. First of all well done for finally making a sketchbook! a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step and all that.

The first piece seems to be the best in my opinion! I like the coloured background but i think youve used the skin tone on a bit low opacity on the top of it as the purpley blue tone shines through oddly (unless its a low opactiy gradient?) -are you using a tablet bud?

The proportioning on it seems pretty good too- if i can spot anything which needs correcting its *possibly* the slope/curve of the neck ever so slightly and bring the hairline a bit lower at lower down by the ear.

Give that piece an hour + more refinement and i think you'll be proud of yourself.

    I DEMAND MOAR.

Footstepsbeckon Yeah your right. These were done in around 30 mins. I could probably refine these a lot more but I was not feeling any inspiration at the time. I do have a tablet too. Thanks for the encouragement my friend.

    Devastacio Thanks for stoping by.

Dope Fiend Your right. I could make these better but I just wasn't feeling the excitement with these.

This piece is a work in progress. Spent about 2 and half hours so far.

Looking good so far, you have a distinct style, that's a good thing!

I would say it could use some pronounced highlights, it seems a little flat, and the cheekbones seem a little odd..but maybe that's just me.

Hey there, sorry for the late reply mate. I wanted to mention something about post #5 yesterday. when i look at the left ear in relation to the left side of the face and the top of the head, i see some oddness. Minor one it is but it could turn into a major one later when you paint this fully.

I like the muted color scheme. i really like stylized characters anyway, so ill wait and see how this piece gonna shape up. Keep up the good work mate.

Dope Fiend I tweaked the the jaw a litte bit. I should of dropped the left cheek down a little, I forgot. I bumped up the contrast too and it looks a lot better. Thanks.

Footstepsbeckon Thanks. The first two images were not a very good representations of what I'm capable of. I did'nt spend more than 30 mins on those first two. I really need to learn patience. I spend more time and effort on this piece and the outcome was well worth it.

Devastacio Damn, I was hoping no one noticed. JK. Thanks for the input.

    Boom! Were finished!

    Hey there,

I really like the finished piece. still the top of the head looks bit out of place. but its a minor problem. His left shoulder hmmm i just felt theres some oddness there but maybe im wrong. maybe its some minor shading error. anyways proper good job mate. lets see some more funny characters!

Haha! He would make a great date! By the way, I'm glad you finally linked to a sketchbook, it brought me so much worry, not being able to track a thread down to return your comments

There might be too much purple in the overall piece, unless he's a Purple People Eater?

    Naidy Haha Thanks.

Devastacio Yeah I agree. The left shoulder/arm thing was a poor attempt at foreshortening.

Kiwigarbage Thanks for stoping by. Purple is definitely the dominate color here. Because I was portraying a night scene I chose this direction of using one prominent color.

This next piece of strange imagery is inspired by a fake stuffed rooster my friend has and a recent dream I had.

It is still in the works.

    That is one awesome-looking rooster.

    I have to say, I'm a fan.

Are you gonna leave us with this, and make us sad, or give us more rooster coolness?

Man i so sorry im late again. I was really busy studying about serial killers for ChoW interesting stories they are. You should try it too. at least for fun.

I say some faults yesterday when i was checking your sb. Watch the guy's left hand. its too big compared to the other hand and the perspective is little off as well. Dont make the human look at the viewer. obviously hes jumping forward so make it natural by making him look at the direction hes jumping. Also i suggest you do some hand studies so your future work would look more realistic. Other than that it looks real great . Have to mention i really like the colors you have used.

But hey I love your cool concepts as always. those mistakes will go away once you keep practicing like this mate.

Keep going mate. ill drop by later to see the progress.

Some interesting work in here already - looking forward to seeing more! As for crit I would say be careful with the rooster guy's right shoulder/neck area - it looks a little odd because it is sloping up so much. I understand that he's got a rooster head but suits don't quite come in that shape - one simple solution would be to lift the split in the lapel higher up towards the top of the shoulder. I hope this makes sense, kinda tricky one to describe. The other thing is I would say the head of the little man is a bit too big in relation to the rest of his body (wasn't sure if that was intentional or not).

    Hey there,

Nice piece. I like it but i have no much crits this time. only problems i see are,

    1. her upper lip seems little off especially the edges.
    2. Neck looks little flat to me probably caused by the shading.

Other than that its cool mate. after all its a 30 min sketch so i guess you have done well

Well, ill see you later man. keep up the good work.

if you're trying to be an illustrator.. ask what kind of illustrator you want to be. one style? many styles? realistic? less realistic? etc. this will help direct your path a bit more.

Thanks for your message in my thread. I think your work is looking pretty cool Your portraits look sweet. I do think, however, you could be really pushing those values. Building up more paint/pixels. Keep going, I'm looking forward to more.

    All the best!
